computer- £100? advice??

screw everything you need to have half a terabit of storage humming away on your desk here, mmmm toasty.

You could build a working pc out of bits and have probably:-

cheapo case (postage will cost more than the case!)
basic motherboard with some form of sound probably only support an agp card aswell but you won't need it.
2x 128mb sticks of ram probably really slow stuff
1x cd writer
40gb HD, this might be the most expensive part, as most people keep HD's till they die, worth going for a near new/new one here.
windows, also fricking expensive.
power unit, if you are lucky you might get one with the case, probably about 250-3??w but its not like you are running massive power.
amd 3000+ or somthing like that, can be overclocked quite nicely to give a decent 2.4 or 2.66ghz or a base level celeron may be worth a look
usb card (might be on case, or it might be on motherboard, but chances are not)
all cables will probably be with power source and a connecting cable will be about £1

forgot to say you could build a good working pc ready for broadband for £100 not inc monitor, any sort of graphics card (don't bother buying anything cheap unless you like mrs pacman rather a lot) or pheriphals

could i buy a cheap pc from ebay, had a look, P3 selling for about £1-3 and then £20 postage and upgrade it all? or not worth it?

i would rather build it because £100 straight out will notice but £20 each week wont really notice.

infact i have a pc in my car, god knows what it is? but i know it doesnt work, lol, it was dumped behind my car, so i just put it in the boot lol  powers up but no screen output, (until i messed with it and broke it more lol)

And yet the gfx card is so crap, it can only do this?
Not far off! :p
It also uses about 3kw of power, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, plus the cost of airconditioning to keep it at a sensible temperature. Glad I'm not paying the electricity bill!
At home I have an Athlon 64 3000+, with 1GB RAM. Couple of years old, but doe the job alright :)

you wont get a half decent pc for £100, ness somthing comes up on dell.com.

i spent almost £400 on mobo/cpu/ram, got a ton of free HDD's as my WD ones kept braking so i got free replacments, picked up an IBM drive free and a maxtor and i'm done, need to still get a good graphics card tho.

my mate just bought a 7800 card, very quick, has offered me his mod'd 6700GT, it runs better than a 6800GT (4,800 3d mark 2005 points overall vs 4050 3d mark 2005 points) as it has some trick bits soldered in there, most I think came from the manufactuer as upgrades or somesuch and has some mod'd drivers that make it run anything absolutly anything, anyway he's offered it to me for £70 (thats the £70 he lost at the casino last night, I finishd the night £17 up but then I didn't play that much, he was £75 down, and his friend was £40 down, but only because he dumped almost all of it on the last round and lost miserably  ).

Anyone think its worth that? the 7800 he just bought from ebay was £195 inc shipping (from emerica) should get about 7,500 on his system.
