Well I've sent my old one back so now need to find another. Anyone got any ideas? I do have access to laptops with both serial and USB, and also have a Serial to USB adapter.

Thanks!

Well I've just got stilosporting's old (well brand new but lets not quibble over symantics!) elm interface, connected it this morning and it works a treat! :D

Only thing is, none of the software seems to delete the Error Codes, they are displayed but I can't seem to get rid of them!!!

Hey deckchair

Erm, erm, software was erm, OBD Master I think??

I think the engine was running at the time as well; does that make a difference? When I deleted the codes they just came back instantly, but the engine light isn't on.

i think that means the fault itself is still there iirc?

With software I've seen, the ECU must be awake so ignition on but engine not running to clear fault codes

I've read that there's a new Superscan II interface and software package coming out soon with special Audi/Fiat add on that just plugs into a normal Windows XP laptop (serial or usb ports) that replaces examiner and can program keys, configure airbag ECU, activate componenents as well as detect codes and clear codes AND it clears those bleeding engine service lights. Covers all Fiats from 1992 onwards

Mmmmmmm!

Got it sorted now, did the code deletion without the engine running (again, thanks deckchair!) and all codes have been cleared.

What is amusing is that it's obviously picking up manufacturer specific fault codes (such as U1600, U1702) that have no explanation next to them. I've tried searching the internet and can't find anything.

Hey Glad you got it working.(y)

Yep the U codes are Fiat generic. The new scanmaster II should be able to deal with them and read off what they're telling us as well as extinguish service lights

There's a windows based program tool available at http://obddiagnostics.com/ProgWin.htmlfor free download. Haven't had chance to actually physically connect it to the car but it's got a few interesting diagnostic features you can view in simulation mode

Will that work with the ELM interface? May go try it out later.

And I bet that scanmaster II will be a few £££

Does anyone know of a software that can 'talk' (via my ELM interface) to my 1.9 115 BHP JTD 2002 Stilo? These engines are not EODB compliant and have their own addressing/programming mode, which, apparently, programs such as all listed in this thread until now cannot handle.

Me again; talking to myself...

Alfanige, if I get my hands on an Examiner software and manage to install it on a laptop, without a touch screen, will I be able to use it with a regular mouse or touchpad?

I'm sure I can; I was reading some Alfa forums the other day and there was a guy there who managed to install it on a laptop, but had some problems with the lack of a touch screen which he tried to emulate with a mouse; I'm downloading v5.5 now from eMule now; I'll let you know...

stupid me; I just finished downloading one version which claimed to be the examiner; it was a fake most likely, archive was corrupted... and most likely all others in the search list are the same... will try a bit more then give up...

Examiner does NOT work with ELM-type interfaces. It needs an intelligent, dedicated VCI card (Vehicle Communication Interface) which is a part of the Examiner equipment.

Codes U1600 and U 1702 mean:

U1600: immobilizer - wrong key/unknown code/no code received/wrong signal.
U1702: NCM-NGE communication nosignal/not plausible (C-CAN communication between engine ecu and electric steering ecu)

Hi Guys,

My Stilo is the 53 1.9 JTD, this OBD stuff on Ebay all says only works on Diesels after 2004.:bang:

Is this just a generalisation to cover there backs or could it work on the 53?

If not does anyone know which wire and software i do need to get?
