Punto (Mk2/2b) Colinf1's 2000 Mk2 8v.

Introduction

Hi all,

Heres my progree blog of my work in progress

Bought it in May,

then after a good service and wash/polish

then after i done tints...

and carbon fibre effect badges

then alloys

cc'd wing mirrors

hopefully be getting a few bits n piece to make it look like this soon

Took 1 can to get it looking cloudy, then I was wishing I used spray gun lol...

Took another 2 to cover it all evenly. It was a satin black paint, so was harder to see which bits where patchy, so had to keep checking out of an upstairs window lol...

Really enjoyed reading this thread, some great stuff you'v been doing been wondering about wrapping the top of my roof you applied yours yourself right?, was it hard etc and how much you think you would be looking at to get one fitted by a profesional pretty sure i would mess it up if i gave it ago lol

the black on the roof was spray painted...then the white stickers were put on, then it was all lacquerd...

would cost a fair bit to get it done by a pro, but theres plenty of videos on youtube to show u the basic technique for doing it, plus if you do it yourself, you can save a bit of dosh and give yourself a "pat on the back" lol

Ahh cool, i just got a quote for 90quid to get a matt black vinyl applied by a pro so think i will give that a shot.. 3 week waiting list mind you haha. Glad your windows sorted again mind

for 90 quid you might aswell have a bash yourself the vynal is only like 20 quid off ebay :)

colin - any news on the cc bumpers?

sourced (nearly) a set of bumpers to smooth and repaint without the need to have car off the road. There are already c/c'd (but there red) so means less hassle tryin to get them smooth and having to use a plastic primer..

Also considering getting the electric windows and central locking out of the donor car, and putting them in my own. I say considering, I looked at the wiring diagram for both and it looks like a lot of work, and not too sure if they would actually work....

time to get the steelies ready for winter...

going with a gloss black/gold lip theme.

Already had 1 wheel painted up from a while back, still in good condition bar a few wee chips. Gold lip done with an old sponge, just tapping it on lightly..

found a set of gold bumpers, but hopes were dashed when I seen hi-res pictures of them. Front was badly cracked, tow eye had a massive rip on one side, rear had a huge hole in the number plate recess and a few other scrapes.

The search continues.

I was looking for some center covers for the steels, just to cover the nuts/hub nut. Was gonna try and get those small covers that you see on vw polo's, remove teh badge indent, smooth them down and do them gloss back too. Had a look in a scrapyard today, but couldnt find any to see if they would fit.

Hows your car going now, Fiatpuntomk2b?

ah bugger, atleast you didnt waste time going to get them only to relaise they were rubbish.

Yeah center covers would look great, thats the only thing that makes steelies look crap, the center nut. Some Seat's have the hub cap things not sure they would fit, worth a try though.

My cars all fixed now, after the ECU went pop that was replaced and so was the throttle body which was the original problem, but its all running fine now.Just in the process of refurbing my alloys :)

Thats good to hear after all the trouble you had with it!

What alloys are you doing, colour?

These are the caps Im talking about, just waiting to hear back from seller, see what size they are. Probably too small for 14" wheels as polo's had 13" as standard.

If they do fit, ill get 1 and try it out, see how it looks.

Wheels got done yesterday, thanks to the good weather they where pretty much done in an hour or so...

Alloys ready for a good wash and wax, then put them away for the winter, not worth the risk of kerbing them and wrecking them.

Bolts put back in, then just painted up with a 5mm artist brush, just to take the bad look off them.
Havent found the center caps yet, want to try fitting 1 before actually getting them.

Was hunting in a few more scrappies, but hardly any puntos in scrapyards, must mean there a good car?

@Butcher, aint that big mate, its just the norm over here, and there a few bigger houses on my road...
