Introduction

Hi all,

Heres my progree blog of my work in progress

Bought it in May,

then after a good service and wash/polish

then after i done tints...

and carbon fibre effect badges

then alloys

cc'd wing mirrors

hopefully be getting a few bits n piece to make it look like this soon

cant see anything that should be an issue

Famous last words

Failed

Windscreen sunstrip - Tint level below 65%
Front windows - Tint level below 65%
Side Lamps - Incorrect colour - Blue tinted bulbs
Front suspension - Dust covers - Missing or damaged - Nearside front

Also says on the slip;
Side-slip/Alignement test NOT DONE, even though the readings from the test are there and well within the acceptable limits.

On last test slip it gives it as Front 7.3m/km / Rear -2.0m/km
On this new slip it give it as Front 0.4m/km / Rear -6.0m/km
Outside limits are +14>-14m/KM on front and +18>-18m/KM

Need to check on what dust cover is missing or damaged
All tints are coming out

Thankfully engine and exhaust system is in really good condition, Hydrocarbons are way down on last test, 48ppm, and CO level is only 0.03 vol% - down from 0.24 vol% from last test

Thats not too bad Colin,

When you ask them any questions like that (slip slide results) they become all defensive!!!

whats the craic with tinted rear side windows?

My Punto is the only car I have ever owned to pass an NCT 1st time just about...despite them driving it in and pushing it out... They told be the battery was F~@?ed! I told them it was only fitted last week!!!

Passed any way... they're all sadistic Ba@~?&d's imo.(n)

Boo earns (n)

You don't have your front windows tinted?

They must mean the covers at the top of the strut... That's prob why they "didn't do" the slip test because it's missing. Conveniently that's a retest because they use the machine  shower of w*nkers

Once they see even the slightest modifications to a car they'll do their best to fail it. Been there done that... They tried telling me my Fiesta was modified, they got a verbal ear bashing off me

Yeah fronts where tinted with 50% film, i guess the glass itself is tinted more than 15% to push it over the limit. Ah well, there off now anyway, pulled clean off with no need to clean any glue.

Those covers where transfered from old shocks to new ones when I was doing the lowering, the only thing I can see that doing is folding up to much, kinda kinks when its compressed and doesnt return to normal lenght...

Jacked up the passenger side there this afternoon, would the ball joint on the wishbone count as a dust cover? The rubber on it is cracked, cant seem to find just the ball joint on shop4parts, only complete arm

Picked up a complete wishbone in scrapyard, all bushens in good condition and dust cover intact on ball joint.

New part was coming in at €65, picked this one up for €20.

Fitted it this morning, wasnt too hard to do...

Gave it a quick clean with wirebrush

Back in for the retest on wednesday, just need to stick in 2 sidelight bulbs

Small update

Noticed the coolant was low the other day, didnt see any signs of leaks so just topped it back up, seemed to be fine.

Seen a car with the same alloys as me, albeit in there original silver...

Then this happened this morning.

Only noticed it as I came back up the motorway, after driving 20~ miles. Was coming across a back road, had to stop as a low loader was loading a digger and dumper.

Seen a small bit of steam coming from under bonnet, didnt have engine idling as i knew it was gonna take a while for them to get loaded.
Popped bonnet and see a pool of coolant on road, pushed a few pipes then noticed the leak at the thermostat, just around the jubilee clip.

Had to get a tow for about 500m to my uncles shed, got the clip off, seen the cut in the pipe so just cut the bad piece off, reattached it and filled the coolant to get me going again.

Have priced a pipe at £22 from fiat so may need to invest in it soon.

Ive been searching for a set of foglights that I used to have on an old volvo. They had motorised covers, that opened/closed when you flicked them on/off.
Can seem to find anything anywhere, cant remember the make or name on them its that long since I had them, I think they got binned in a garage clean out.

Found these on ebay, wondering what you guys think?

There roughly that size, fit nicely each side of the number plate, and 1 side is slanted at the same(ish) angle of the bumper

fogs are on hold for the time being...

my bodge job on the coolant pipe lasted exactly 1 week, thankfully the part came in this morning so its on now with new jubilee clips, topped up and bled.

I think the pipe that fail was the original pipe, so 12 years old and it would have been on and off a few times in the past 12/15months with the engine change and then the thermostat change.

Spent a few hours on Sunday detarring the entire car, then a good wash and wax to make it look a bit cleaner.

Bit more tweaking done today,

Was still getting a bit of grugling from heater matrix so gave it another bleed.

Fixed up a mudflap that i had put on wonky, but to get that done needed to take off wheel.
Noticed one of the drum holding bolts had disappeared, so had to find another to fit that.
Then noticed a bit of rubbing on each side, just a small bit of the inner bumper so trimmed that with the dremel.

Gave the car a bit of a wet sand and polished by up using meguiars ulitimate compound.
Got rid of a few run marks, buffed it back up quite nicely.
Decided to take off the liner underneath the bonnet as it was stinking dirty, was gonna wash it but left it off instead. Cleaned up around engine while i was at it.

Painted the bottom piece of the front bumper, just under the radiator opening, should have done this when I was spraying it first. Was tempted to mesh the radiator grille, but decided against it for the time being
