Punto (Mk2/2b) Colinf1's 2000 Mk2 8v.

Introduction

Hi all,

Heres my progree blog of my work in progress

Bought it in May,

then after a good service and wash/polish

then after i done tints...

and carbon fibre effect badges

then alloys

cc'd wing mirrors

hopefully be getting a few bits n piece to make it look like this soon

I eventually found a set of foglights with the flip up covers that I used to have.
Unfortunatly, there ultra rare now, seen this ad on ebay, also seen a set of the exact ones I had go for £500! If only I had to keep them in the shed, rather than putting them in the skip...ahwell!

Came across a cheap sheet of mesh in halfords, was marked down to €10 from €35, so took it to try it out.

Took a fair while to do it, alot of cutting to do just to get the original bit cut out, then came the hard part of fitting it. Alot of fiddling about cutting and bending, followed by a bit of plastic welding, followed by plenty of araldite and the mesh is in.

Cut out a few pieces of plastic to fill the holes where the 2 teeth where on the old one, but havent got round to smoothing/finishing them yet.

Had a bit left over, so decide to stick them in the rear bumper.

Would have rathered the diamond mesh stuff before, but for the sake of €10 you cant really go wrong!

Other than that, havent really done anything to the car, apart from a service.

Have a slight issue with the thermostat, seems to be opening too early, had it on the computer and it temp sensor only got up to 71c before the stat opened. Took it off and the rubber seal looks ok, tested it in some boiling water and it opens almost instantly so might look into taking it back to get it changed as its only a few months old.

my car and another that was parked in town, wanted to see how much lower it was v's standard shocks, tho the blue car was on 17's...

the splitter on the front helps it look alot lower...
How you finding the air filter there? Is it a good position to have it...? thinking of upgrading soon but getting very good mpg atm, and will be commuting when i pass so mpg is a must, but want the sound of an air filter!

Cheers,
sam

The carbon fibre vinyl I had on the B posts started to fade alot, was turning a shade of pink...guess it wasnt uv protected....

Got a small piece of gloss black vinyl for free, so decided to redo the pillars.

Drivers side turned out fine, but I had to remove the original vinyl on the passenger side, there where a few cuts and bubbles/creases in it, then had to remove all the glue residue which took forever!

Screwed it up when putting the new vinyl on, got a lot of bubbles in it so just binned it. Now im left with 1 black and 1 gold pillar, dunno which looks best....

The only issue with going gold is, theres a line at the top and bottom of where I painted the car, dont think I could do anything to reduce the looks of it, but its not overly visible....

Must get another piece of vinyl and redo both sides and the small plastic piece beside it, keep them all the same colour.

Had a bit of a rattle down in drivers footwell, turned out to be a busted front speaker..

Luckily I picked up two 13cm speakers out of a Brava a few weeks ago, so modified the old speaker, 17cm, to hold the 13cm one, then a bit of foam to seal the gaps between and jobs a good one!

Passenger side speaker was ok, but decided to do it to lol..

Sound quality is dead on too!

Finally got round to ordering some vinyl a few days ago, arrived today so got stuck in.

Decided to take the drivers side original vinyl off before the new stuff arrived, pulled it too hard towards the end and took a nice chunk of paint with it...

but not to worry, new vinyl is the textured carbon fibre stuff, so it covers it up nicely lol

Not quiet as OEM looking as Deekstar, but it works, inside of an old PSP car charger, it had been modified to power some footwell LEDs so had to find another usb port and solder it on, thankfully I had a useless USB travel charger, so took bit out of that, attached them to the psp charger pcb, then attached the + and - to the cigar lighter wires using scotch lock clips.

Used a piece of old bumper grille to fill the hole, then cut the slot out for the usb port, tried to put the LED in too, but was too fiddly and just gave up.

Bit of carbon fibre vinyl just to hide the bumper plastic to finish it.
