Punto (Mk2/2b) Colinf1's 2000 Mk2 8v.

Introduction

Hi all,

Heres my progree blog of my work in progress

Bought it in May,

then after a good service and wash/polish

then after i done tints...

and carbon fibre effect badges

then alloys

cc'd wing mirrors

hopefully be getting a few bits n piece to make it look like this soon

Its not that great, needs claying as its rough in places from overspray, then a few runs. But for a small 24 litre tank and a cheap spray gun + my inexpeirence, I cant really expect a professional body shop finish. Not worth spending thousands on a pro paint job when car would only sell for €500...

Im happy enough with it, just wanna get it back on the road now.

I rather the tinted lights, but the 2b's would look good also..

Hope not, shouldnt get that hot on the rocker cover, its painted with normal hammerite too, so if it was really hot it would have destroyed the paint, it painted 8 months now. Last engines rocker cover was done with normal halfords metallic paint, it was fine too..

looks great, how much did those alloys set you back?

what they called?

There MAK streetfighters, seem to be very rare indeed. Only ever seen 1 other set over here and that was on an adverts website on a corsa.

Initially they cost me €85, there where badly kerbed and 2 tyres where baldy, 2 where okayish. They've had 2 refurbs, 1 when I got them to sort out bad kerbing, 2nd was to gun metal grey.

@Ashjj, still havent sealed them, have a small strip of plastic, its semi transparant, so gonna see how it looks with that over them, it should defuse the light so it will look like a strip rather than individual lights.

She's out of the garage now, ready to drive tomorrow. All wiring sorted and tidyed, inside needs a good clean along with alloys and windows.

Oh rite thats fair enough m8.

Looking good now its all back together lets just hope those f***ers have found something better to do now.

Found something to fill the holes on indicators - more araldite! this time using glass & ceramic stuff, dries cyrstal clear.

Have 1 layer of it in, just need to top it up as it dries to bring it back up level.

Will be making up a guide on how to do them, maybe later tonight.

Changed dials to ones from a 16v, so got the rev counter and temp guage now. Got them proxi aligned and mileage corrected today, thankfully no more flashing!!

When I put them in, noticed the car was running too cold, suspected thermostat to be stuck open - inner seal had failed meaning it was opening and closing as normal, but not creating a water tight seal so couldnt get the car up to correct tempurature.

Had to take off Throttle body today after a it started revving by itself. Cleaned all with carb cleaner so hoping it was just some dirt on the idle control valve sensor that caused it.

Have it back in now and seems to be running fine.

Its getting up to normal temp now, and fuel usage has gone down!

small update...

Few patches of rust treated and painted on the underbody and around spare wheel well. Thankfully was only surface rust so wasnt too hard to fix up.

Got a set of car seats, rather than spending money on an 147 interior, picked up a set of black/dark grey covers to match the door cards. Weren't to hard to fit, just took a bit of time getting them all fitted nicely.

Bit short on the back of the seats, but cant really notice it too much.

picked up a set of 50% brighter H7's, so stuck them in to see if the lights are any better.
