Driving along in the powdery wind-blown snow, the engine just warmed up - 4 miles - then yellow engine warning light comes on. Engine continues to operate. A mile later, going up a mild but long incline, the STOP light comes on and the engine, erm, stops.
Thinking "What to do I'm in the middle of nowhere", an attempt to restart is OK, and we move off. Engine light still on. I have the feeling that trying to push the accelerator down results in a STOP again, but I don't push it, not wanting to be marooned in the snow.
After about 6 more miles I stop & hole up in a house for 40 minutes. On leaving , the engine light is on. After a mile and a half, give or take, 'cos I'm concentrating on the slippy road it goes off and stays off.
So, what might have caused this? With the warning lamp ON, the machine still motors. With the warning light ON, it works but makes one feel "iffy".
