Hi,

I have a 2017 Fiat Tipo 1.4 petrol, 75k miles on the clock. 2-3 weeks ago I noticed the car sounds a bit more rough than usual.

When I am parked or moving slowly and if I press the clutch all the way, I can hear squeeling / chirping noise. I can hear a different noise (not quite chirping yet) even if I gently touch the clutch pedal. When driving for some time, at the end of the journey I can still hear the squeeling / chirping noise.

Roughly at the same time (2-3 weeks ago) I noticed, as I said, the enging is running a bit rough. When I am pulling away or driving at low RPM I can hear a rattling noise in the cabin. It doesn’t get better even if I have driven it for a while.

I suspect might be the clutch, but anyone else any ideas, before I commit to £500 cost? Are these two issues possibly related? I know if it is the clutch, I need to do the whole clutch kit, but anything else I need to while have the gearbox open? I’ve heard of dual mass flywheel, but don’t know what the symptoms are.

I’ve had it for 4 years and done 25k miles with it, so I suspect it hasn’t had the clutch changed.

Thanks!

That sounds very much like the release bearing starting to fail. The squealing/chirping when pressing the clutch (even lightly) is a classic sign.
Your engine likely has a solid flywheel, not a dual mass, so that’s less of a concern.
If you’re doing it, while the gearbox is out it's best to put new driveshaft seals on the gearbox and maybe consider putting new bearing inside gearbox, it's not much extra work, you just need to open gearbox case. Also, main shaft seal is accessible only from the inside of the gearbox so it would be a good time to have it all done, new main shaft seal too.
The rattling at low RPM could be related, but also worth checking mounts or heat shields just in case.

Thanks Miki, this is very helpful!

Ok, that didn't work.

Cane across pdf fiat manual for the 1.4 engine which may be helpfull.

Will try and attach to email so as to send it that way...

Was for bravo tube ather than Tipo, but basically the same engine, cam belt one.

Try adding it here
There is an "Add resource" button in the top right on page.
I went to the garage today and they mentioned I might need to change the flywheel in addition to the clutch. But when they tried to ring a few suppliers, none of them had a flywheel.

Is there a way to tell if the flywheel needs replacing?

Do you know the OEM part number for the flywheel? The model is 1.4L petrol 95PS.
