Technical Clutch pedal is squishy when operating

Second question about my daughter's 2013, second hand Fiat 500. The inspection report also listed:

The clutch pedal is squishy when operating

She went out and bought a bottle of WD40 but I'm not sure that would help. Can any experts suggest what the correct answer is to that? Is this something I can fix myself?

Possible problems
Leaking joint under passenger wing area, most likely this causing lack of fluid or air in system
Master cylinder or slave cylinder
