What do you guys think about buying a clutch kit from Ebay? They seem to be a lot cheaper than my local place is quoting but is it false economy? Is there a brand you would recommend?

Thanks

Based on previous experience I would be carefull. Last year I bought a pair of wishbones only to find that they were for the pre 2004 model Stilo and didn't fit mine. I could have bought even cheaper parts for about £25.00 each but the manufacturer was unknown and I suspect they were cheap Chinese pattern parts.

I would suggest that you pay a bit more and stick to known makes because if they do fail then you have all the associated labour costs with changing things over again.

The old adage, if it looks too good to be true then it probably is.

Fiat use Valeo for clutch parts, so if you bought Valeo parts from an eBay seller, or local motor factor, they would be the same as supplied by Fiat, but much cheaper.

I recently bought a Valeo dual mass flywheel for my JTD from an Italian eBay seller for the Euro equivalent of £210 delivered within 3 days. The same part from Fiat was £460 +VAT.

EDIT: UK company here:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Clutch-Ki...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item416532c532

has the 1.6 Valeo clutch kit for £85 delivered.

They don't list one for the 1.8 but you could ask them. The 1.8 kit usually comes without the thrust bearing/concentric slave cylinder, so you would need to check.

Can you supply me with a link? (y)

This is the one I bought:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/836034-Sc...867313373?pt=DE_Autoteile&hash=item19d034f2dd

Valeo part number 836034. It's listed here for the 150 MJ, but was the correct part number for my 115 JTD. There are several versions of the Stilo DMF.

Check you get the correct one. I found some eBay sellers were listing the same part number DMF for all diesel Stilos.

Valeo or LuK No need for fiat as already said they are Valeo units anyway.

On a tangent... SKF, Gates or Continental (ContiTECH) for all things belt related... Lucas, Phillips or PIAA for bulbs... NGK for spark plugs and finally... FRAM or MANN (MANN-Hummel) for filters

Hi all, I`ve been away for a while. Mostly dealing with my wifes new ford focus Cmax. Its a nice car but the cmax forum`s are really useless. I think it might be because it attracts a certain type of person who isnt interested in messing about with the car.

Anyway.........
I'm thinking about pushing my remap a little bit more, outside of the scope of my 115JTD clutch.

I found this thread above which sort of helps on clutch kits.

My question is has anybody ever fitted the 150MJ clutch into a 115JTD before? Not sure if the above quote is saying its a universal fit or the supplier has just incorrectly specified the correct part numbers?

Or has anyone got a clutch to recomend for the above purpose?

one thing i would be wary of you buy the kit on ebay, gearbox is removed and your clutch is a different size and spigot shaft is smaller, how long is the hold up before you get another one:bang::bang::cry:,buying locally can be easier and time is money.

SKF for belts I would avoid, Gates and Contitech are by far the best. SKF for bearings though.

Going back to the original question, can anyone answer it? Thanks:)

Mike s :If you find the Fiat OE numbers off eper then cross check with www.partsbase.net you should find the answer to interchangeability and then to your question.

Wow thanks 850, thats a real useful database I was not aware of.

I had a check & there are a few models that are listed for both vehicles (MJET 150 & JTD 115)
One model is this.
VALEO - Clutch Kit [826330]
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/190699035467?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

However the listing on ebay does not list the 115JTD stilo, so I am asking the seller to confirm.:)

edit - Fiona, sorry, i meant my question.
