I have an 08 Grande Punto 1.2 and over the past month or two has developed a whining noise.
It only happens when I'm out of gear with the clutch pedal up, as soon as I engine the clutch pedal about half way down, the whine stops. It doesn't seem to make the sound whilst I'm in gear.
I've taken it to a local garage who said it's probably not the clutch plates or release bearing, and most likely the gearbox.
Looking at similar threads, other people have suggested that it's a gearbox bearing - is this the most likely cause? And if so, which bearings would need replacing?
Thanks for any help
