Today I picked up my super cheap eleganza which has a million and one little issues right now but I am hoping to tidy up.

The 2 biggest issues are the airbag light being on and the climate control having some interesting quirks.

I will start a topic for the airbag but this one focusses on the climate control.

Basically it blows cold unless you put the fan power unto 2/3rds power or more, at which point you can hear a flap blow open and hot air comes out.

I have read that perhaps the splines on the flap actuator could be stripped but that would surely result in the fan being either constantly open or constantly closed? I can't see how it would close perfectly fine but only open when a decent burst of air is blown across it.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

It happens on full temp, when the little screen says HI.Potentially I am using it wrong? Is there another flap that could be sticking closed?

When on high, it'll blow full heat, then on Low it'll blow full coolness, any temp setting and it'll blow heat if the internal cabin temp is below the set temp, and cold air if the cabin temp is higher than the set temp.

With a cold engine the car will not blow out heat until the car has started to warm up, unless you select high - I take it this isn't whats happening to you?

Hmmm something definitely isn't right.Theres a definite clunk when you turn the fan speed up past about 2/3rds as if a flap is opening.

Why are you fiddling with fan speed out of interest

Car should do it automatically. Hit auto and set the temp and jobs done.

Or does it happen when the car adjusts the fan speed

:yeahthat:

Put it on the right temp and auto and the car will start to blow warm air when the enginetemp is over 40 degrees. It'll choose fanspeed and direction all by itself.
Turning it to high will not make the interior warmer sooner.

I get all that I was just playing with settings as you do on a new car. However it doesn't fix my problem.

I have just been out and played about with it, on the climate control the fan speed bar has to be on the top 2 little settings for warm air to come out, you can hear a very distinctive sound of a flap opening. Anything below that and the air is cold, even if I set the temperature to say 30 degrees, and its so cold in the cabin I can see my own breath, and the car is up to operating temperature, it will still only blow cold until I put the fan speed on those last 2 bars and the flap opens?

I am wondering if perhaps there is a flap that controls the air going to either your feet or the screen etc and perhaps it is a little stiff?

Seems it will be on the inside of the passenger footwell behind the heater,I'll see if I can find anything back there.

It does seem strange. Might be an actuator like you say. If you turn the speed up, and then when heat comes out the speed back down does it become cold again

No it stays warm unless you turn it all the way down to no power at which point you hear the flap close again and it goes back to cold. So strange!
