Hello everyone, this is my first post after some years of lurking and I have what it seems a common problem.
I've had the little panda for 3.5 years now and the previous owner removed the gear mechanism and motor that controls the mixing flap in the footwell of the passenger (LHD), probably the plastic brittle axle broke. The heater has been stuck on HOT because when the fan turns on it lifts the flap and sets it to HOT position, when turned off you can hear it drop again.
My mechanic (and some threads on this forum) say that to rotate the flap is a dash and doors out procedure, which makes sense, and I THINK there is a small bypass to this and need your opinions.
So I removed the gear selector panel and there is some cramped access to the 12 mm hole that connects to the flap (where the motor probably was).
Very awkwardly I made two 3mm holes to the plastic within that hole and screwed in this lever (out of some toys). First pic is on COLD position 2nd on HOT.
My problem is this, I do not know if this actually works completely because on the hot position I measured 48C vent temperature which makes sense as car was not too hot, but on the cold I measured ambient ~35C. As I have no way to know if the AC works my question is: Does this all make sense? and Is there a quick DIY way to check AC system (with multimeter, simple tools and MES with VAG COM) before contacting any specialists to fix?
