Hi all, well it was bound to happen sometimes... Fiat fans are not known for their longevity ;) The fan still works but is very noisy and I got some indication (from searching previous threads) that it might be just leaves stuck in the motor. I'll investigate. In the meantime the AC is off and I have problems with misty windows. Being blonde, can somebody explain how do I get rid of the problem if the AC is off? Many thanks

Make sure the system isn't on 'air recirculate' and is on fresh air intake (y)

That, and drive with the windows slightly open.

It will also help to turn the heat control to maximum and the air control to windscreen only. There isn't much of a ram air effect with the 500 heater system and you want to get as much warm air over the windscreen as you can.

first thing clean the glass with a dedicated car glass cleaner ideally one with a bit of "cut" a tiny amount of autoglym glass polish on a microfibre cloth or ideally mf polishing pad pre moistened with a spritz of ag fast glass rub in well allow to haze and buff up to a smear free shine

My fan has been noisy for years. It's not leaves. I've got used to it now and drive with musicon to drown out the sound. I find using aircon to demos is only a short term fix and when switch off it steams up again. I now use heater and have window slightly open. Still get the circles appearing on side windows when steam up lol

Yep - I still get the circles when misted up!

Change your pollen filter. Normally when these are badly clogged, you'll have problems with moisture constantly on the inside of the glass. Also use a proper anti-fog treatment (not rain-x which is crap), and ensure the glass is very clean. I never have a problem once this is done.

Thanks for advice but it's the ticking fan issue that I've had since car was a few months old that others have had and not a pollen filter issue. But thanks for trying to sort it out anyway :)

The fan is due to the brushes squeaking on the commutator of the motor - it's not the only car to suffer from this. What I was referring to was the steaming up issue.

Exactly, one of the major benefits of a/c is it dehumidifies the air, and is excellent for doing so by setting the temperature on high, having the a/c switched on, and directing the airstream to the windows.

As said, you will get a bit of mist on hot/humid days when the a/c has been in use, then the car stopped, as the condensate will thaw from the evaporator, but this usually clears pretty quickly.

Any major misting problem could be due to a leak in the heater matrix, or (more likely) some form of water leak into the car which means the soundproofing under the carpet is probably wringing wet and the moisture content of the car is high.

Nothing is wet. Car steams up when it's damp outside and we get in with wet coats. Or it's been a cold night and frost on outside, always means inside steamed up initially too. Happened on all fiats I've owned. It's not a problem, was just commenting that car steams up sometimes. Nothing wrong as far as I'm concerned, just a quirk

Fair enough!

hi all,
our fiat 500 mists up all the time, we where told to turn everthing to cold with ac on.
so is that wrong? as when we put the heat on it mists up very fast.
cheers
