Anyone got ideas how to get a nice shiny under the bonnet look for a car?

My Grande Punto isn't the most pretty under the bonnet, pretty dull under there. Does anyone know how to get a nice clean look? Is it washing it and being careful not to get water in the engine and other parts or do you just paint it with heat resistant paint?

you can liven up dull parts

For example engine mounts
A good key / wire wheel to clean them up
Etch primer to bond to aluminmum and then paint and lacqur to restore colour
Same for Coil packs - rocker covers

You can treat plastic with products like Autoglym plastic and bumper treatments,
Darnkens the colour to make it look "new" fresh

You can also give the surrounding bodywork (the actual paint) A darn good scrub and wax
But its harder to detail an engine bay to make it look swish
