Mine cost me the equivalent of a new Impreza Turbo (if not a little more) and half the contents of the house. Thing is, it was worth it just to get rid :D .

Still, ended up happier, with more spare cash than when I was married and with two cars to play with.

Get the alloys on the Stilo though!

Impreza Turbo? Eugh! Better off with the divorce :D

Re: Eh?

No point in putting spanking new Alloys on a car a few weeks before the roads get ruined with grit and road salt. Plus the dunlop tyres on the car grip well in crappy conditions.

Thinking of putting Avon ZZ3's on the wheels, i like the look, they get not bad reviews and they are touted as reducing road noise.

I can't believe Twincamms knows what a Fangita is, he probably gets called one daily! ;)

Ok then

I have to agree it makes sense sticking with your steelies over the winter, they are better in the snow, and you won't be gutted if you kurb them!

You are tight too James!

Puh! Keep the Steelies on! Disgraceful! Style comes before practicality!

Stiloboy, I don't know what a Fangita is, perhaps you have your Spanish words mixed up with your Italian words ????

Re: You are tight too James!

Doesn't cost a bean, i do it by hand, only fools take their car to a car wash, why exactly would you want to subject your paintwork to either a dodgy pressure washer or a massive set of scrubbing brushes and corrosive car cleaner.

Wolf, I've.........................

been asking the same question for years!

Let it be, you're on to a loser with this guy, anything you say he'll contradict, so let him get on with it!

They obviously don't have Kosovans 'R' Us in Scotland! You know the £5 handwash guys who'll gently wash, wax and chamois your car.

Dog.............................

I don't tend to believe stereotypes and always come to my own conclusions, but true to form, Stiloboy, Donz and Scorg have all proved to be tightwads!

That's 3 of you out of the 4 that I've spoken with on here, 75%, so the Southern perception is correct ???

@Stiloboy,

Are you gonna put your steelies back on in winter 2005?? Mate you have to much time on your hands it sounds. Also you have a decent car, decent alloys yet your gonna wait till next summer to put them on?? Also how do steel wheels handle the snow/bad weather better?? You have ALOT more traction with your WIDER alloys and tyres. Makes a hell of a difference my friend.

Carlo.............................

what I think he means is that the steelies have narrower tyres on, which do handle better in the wet/snow. The wider the tyre and lower the profile the worse a tyre handles in the wet/snow, because it creates a bigger footprint and it's more rigid, whereas a skinny tyre makes a smaller footprint, all very complicated and confusing and although it sounds strange it's true!

Oh God..................I know what I'm on about but can someone please simplify what I'm trying to say, trust me, I really do know what I mean!!!

Re snow

you`re right twincamms, the wider the tyre the worse it is in the snow. it gives you a sort of snowboard effect. just glad we dont get much snow now.

global warming? gets my vote.

A skinny tyre...

Sinks into the snow, and grips, whereas a big fat tyre sits on top and slides about.

Strangly enough though, I found my Stilo handled the snow very well, even though it has 205 section tyres, the ABS only activated when I provoked it too (I tried it out because I was beginning to question whether or not it was fitted ;) )

A bloke I know changes the 18's on his CLK to 17's in the winter!

what you guys really need is some traction control, fcuk changing wheels and tyres over!! ;)
