...........and you can always disconnect the speedo cable if you're going on a long run.. :)

On a serious note - how did you fit this engine into your car ? Not the mechanical stuff , but the wiring - did you use a loom from a Punto 16V ??

The car's loom is standard, the engine loom I modified - firstly to move the 32-way ECU connector & hence the ECU to the nearside from the offside wing and secondly, to move the pins around on the AMP 20-way enine loom to car loom connector. There's various functions on the Punto's engine loom that are caried out by the Cinq car loom. The starter motor & alternator connections are two examples, so the engine to car connectors are different (although at first glance they look the same.)

The biggest headache was that the haynes and porter wiring diagrams for BOTH cars are wrong. Several wires are wrongly identified - in colour and function. This was really shocking as the Porter diagrams are actually from FIAT themselves!

None of the CODE system is identified in the diagrams; occasionally you'd find a line representing a wire with an arrow and "anti theft unit" written next to it but nothing concrete.

I was lucky enough to have access to me mum's punto 85 so I could compare reality to what was down on paper.

Nah, it just means I can only go 3000 miles in the next year. Shouldn't be too much of a problem as I've got a Tempra* for day-to-day use.

Hi
I was only joking,i wrote my real answer at the bottom of my post. :D
Cheers

Hot Fiat - thanks for the info . I have a 1242 8v engine here ready to fit , but I can't help feeling it will be a bit "tame" , when what I'd really like is a bit of a monster . The 16v sounds like the way to go

Thought I would dig this thread back up...

Which wires in particular did you have issues with?

Did you by anychance make your own diagrams that are actually right as opposed to FIAT :bang:

I'm thinking that the 16v route is going to have to be done come the summer time :yum:

remember you also need to upgrade the fuel pump and probably lines aas well as Cinqs run a low pressure 1 BAR system, the 16V's run a high pressure 3 BAR system.

Aaron.

Yeah I know that am on the case...

A 16v pump should do fine or maybe a walbro one... :)

I did consider upgrading the lines, but on closer insplection found that they were well up to the task already (they're stamped as being 8 bar tested - that's 112psi!)

The wiring that was a downright pain was:

The connectors for the CODE system - the system's missing from the diagrams.
The power supply for the ecu - put simply the drawings are just plain wrong.
Determining which pin does what on the 20-way AMP blocks was interesting, again the official diagrams are wrong.

I do have some diagrams somewhere - I'll dig them out & AutoCAD them up at some point.

Don't suppose you made your own diagrams

Btw I was at york when you went I was the one with the red chavvy Cinq with black bonnet :D

Jamie,

have you got a Y10 GTie or is it a turbo? What's it like to drive?

I'll run some diagrams off - it won't be for a week or so as I've got very little time at present but I'll see what I can do. Do you want Cinq, Punto or what I've put in the car drawings?

It's a turbo is kindda an ongoing project that will one day see the tarmac again

Well the plan is to try and fit a 16v in the summer so trying to get as much info as poss so no great rush..

Any diagrams will do me the more the merrier :D

Cheers :worship:

Hows it running by the way? :yum:

It's running really well now. rebuilt the cinq fuel pump with a Punto 85 motor to get decent fuel pressure, I've also modded the induction system. to Reckoning on 0-60 in about 7 with an indicated 130 being seen a few times now (yes I know the dial only goes to 120!)

Just finished fitting my 6 speed mk2 punto box, which would be great, but, have discovered that 3rd gear's synchro's dead. Rrse!

Andy

The Mk1 6speed box has a lower top end - you top out at an actual 93 @ 6000 rpm in 6th, but the MK2 units have different ratios & final drives so 6th should push you to 111.

Wanted to get to Santa Pod a few weeks ago, but had to give it a miss having boiled the poor thing trundling 'round london. York next year is a definite though.
