Hi everyone,

Having issues with my 899cc not starting and hoping you could help please.

I'll start at the beginning. Over a year ago I bought the cinquecento as a project, previous owner hadn't tried starting it in a while. Once it arrived with me it turned over no problem but didn't fire up, so I took that as maybe needing fresh fuel plugs etc. So that was changed but still not starting. Then looked further into it and notice I wasn't getting spark or fuel. Crank sensor would be a good shout at this point but again new sensor made no difference.

At this point I wasn't getting to the car much with other commitments until just recently. So back to it after trying some other tests( to the best of my abilities ), simple things like checking clean earth points, fuses good, relays fine. As I was delving deeper I started to worry it was maybe an immobiliser issue and I only had one blue key. So to cover all bases I purchased an ecu set with 2 blue keys and 1 red/brown key, immobiliser, ignition barrel etc. I also decided to just cover things being this deep into it and get a new fuel pump and some new relays for that side of things.

So this morning I installed all those parts. Whilst replacing the fuel pump I gave the tank a syphon and clean of any crap that was at the bottom of the tank. Replaced with some fresh fuel, plugged everything back in and still cranks over but not starting. Checked the plugs which were bone dry and not sparking.

In total all the parts I've replaced so far have been.
Plugs, leads, coils, air filter, fuel filter, crank sensor, fuel pump, fuel pump relay, ecu, ignition barrel, immobiliser, battery and fresh fuel.

Am I missing something so stupid as to why it will crank over perfectly but not fire up.

I don't want to give up on this car but I'm struggling with where to go with it at this point.

Appreciate anything you guys can offer.

Does the orange key code light go out on the dash after you turn the ignition on or does the light stay permanently lit, it's meant to go out after a couple of seconds of turning on the ignition
Hi,

I can confirm that it does go off after a second of putting the ignition on.

I'm wondering if it could perhaps be either a faulty solenoid on the starter motor or the cheaper option which happened on my own car a while ago it was having difficulty starting it turned out to be the coolant temperature sensor at fault (on top of thermostat housing) as this sends signal to the ECU telling it which air & fuel mixture to do etc so it was over fuelling preventing it from starting, the part was just under £8 delivered, changed in minutes & started up first go. The part number for the 899 is 46477022 it's the same on both Cinquecento's & Seicento's

Sorry for bringing up my old thread, just want to ask. Would the coolant temp sensor cause both no fuel and no spark issue?

Again sorry I haven't been back to the car much but I will be getting back to it this week.

Symptoms of a dodgy coolant temp sensor is usually struggling to start when hot & reeking of fuel when it does eventually start due to overfuelling. So if there's no fuel or spark start by checking the usual basic stuff like plugs, leads etc but a few things are coming to my mind.

1) is the fuel pump priming when you turn the ignition on, the motor inside the pumps are a known issue

2) when was the fuel filter last changed as if it's old it could be clogged up with crud

3) check the condition of your crank sensor as this could effect spark, timing etc & prevent it from running. If anything I'd say this is probably the prime suspect as they usually either crack on the sensor itself or the wire breaks. This is very common on the 899's. If you have to change the crank sensor be very careful not to bend the bracket on the block when undoing the 2 small 8mm bolts as it has been known to happen which can muck up the timing etc.

Hi just to confirm, the pump, relays, fuel filter and crank sensor have all been replaced with new items along with many other parts thay relate to either the fuel or spark side of things. Short of changing the wiring loom. Thank you
