True, but thinking what to do with the remains of the gearbox may be an issue.
Re the sledge hammer, when you can hold it at arms length then you are big enough to swing it.
I can get a secondhand gearbox for around £200, so no problem if i give it a smash with a big hammer to get it out of the car

The clutch came and its been used...so i'm probably going to send it back. A shame because i can't actually see anything wrong with it and whoever put it on could have made the mistake. But i don't fancy putting it on and then finding the problem...You can see that the spring fingers have been worn. The brand was Rymec, this clutch used to be available at GSF for £72.
The slide hammer looks OK, but not as powerful as i'd hoped, we'll see with that.
Autodoc have marked the gearbox oil as despatched, but the courier EVRI doesn't have it. I'm not in any hurry to get the oil but Autodoc are very slow.
I was going to start this job tomorow, but now i don't have a clutch i can completely trust i may delay that, i'm not sure.

I'm looking at other clutches and this one i found has a similar type of "shadow" on the fingers, is this normal then?
Do they get tested prior to sale and have the fingers compressed and scratched?

I thought at that possibility too, but it doesn’t sound right to me.
As I remember, the one I bought had no such marks on it. It was LUK.

It might just be scrappy manufacture? I'm not sure how clean these are supposed to look.

Just a thought, are they "remanufactured", they don't exactly look top quality to me and price seemed very cheap as Valeo and Sach seem to be over £100.
I used to like Borg and Beck in the old days , but they seem to be just using the name rather than the quality.
Generally I bought from local motor factors using LUK or Valeo etc. The reason being in the unlikelyhood of them being faulty I could get redress locally.

Any marks on friction Plate, withdrawal bearing and packaging, greasey finger marks ?

I did try to zoom in on the bolt holes, but not conclusive although slight marks/indentations.

This is a new one, same brand, but previously sold by GSF for £72. Kind of scruffy really!
I was looking on ebay and saw some remanufactured clutches and they were charging new prices, like £100, hard to believe!

A good question...the answer being yes. There are 6 bolt hole witness marks like the one below, so this is remanufactured?

Seems the only place i can get a clutch tomorrow is Halfords of all places, but at £125. Otherwise i'm waiting till next week.
Time is getting short, maybe i'll start the job without the clutch, or maybe i'll delay the job until after my sons driving test and just hope the clutch doesn't chirp at the driving examiner lol. I don't know what i'm going to do now.
Do you have any good motor factors near you, ones that the trade use?
You could maybe get a price for different brands, sometimes you can say is that the best price you can do and if they like your face there may be a bit of flexibility?

I can get one from GSF for £80 tomorrow morning. Or i can get another ebay one delivered for £55 next Tuesday/Wednesday.
It seems Halfords are just going to buy in the one i saw on Eurocarparts, so they don't stock them.
I'm not sure what i'm doing.

It is £106 regular price, and £80 with the discount. Its not a terrible price at all, i'm just umming and arring while i decide what to do.
