The throw out bearing in my Grande Punto has started chirping, the clutch itself has been high for as long as i can remember. I'd hoped the clutch would last until my son had done his driving test in this car next month, but it needs doing now because the examiner might hear the chirping and refuse to do the test. The car has just passed 100,000 miles on the clock, i imagine its on its first clutch.

Seems the icy weather has passed, so thats good.

Fun fun fun :)

I bought the oil, it needs GL4+, 2 litres at £20 per litre. £48 delivered.

I bought the clutch kit £49.99 with free delivery, i've bought this kit before and its lasted 20,000 miles on my EVO so far, so no need to buy from elsewhere, no idea what the brand is.

I bought a driveshaft puller, getting the driveshaft out is a major headache so i'm hoping the puller will make life easier.

So i've already spent close to £100 on parts, and £26 on tools. Mmmm, what else will i need?! Hopefully not much.

Hi Anthony,

When the gearbox is off, could you kindly measure the gear box input shaft splines outer diameter please.

Also, the clutch pressure plate, could you measure the diameter of the outside of the raised central part, not the inner wall by the fingers but the raised outer wall of the central hole please....

I will make a sketch as to what I mean and post a picture of it. I have tried to post pictures on here with no joy but I will give it another go...

Thanks in advance, info very much appreciated....

Yes sure, (y)

In hindisght i'd have bought the slide hammer that i posted a while ago, its below. Its more expensive than the one i bought at £68 but i would really like the metal cable i've circled in red, i'm concerned that the solid metal parts may be too big or too small, will see.

Yep, it's always a worry how universal universal stuff is...

Locally we have a brilliant hardware store, stermat, that stocks all manner of stuff. Metre long threaded rod, nuts, washers, chain, cable and cable clamps....etc.

Toolstation do a hard cataloque but will not mail them out !

Screwfix is all online, not so good...

I made two dummy CV joints to use on the pug 306 to stop the front wheel bearings collapsing when car was moved with engine out...just nuts and bolts with washers really but made from threaded rod, nuts and washers....

Even at £30, apart from the crowS feet perhaps, a slide hammer system can be "made up"....There is a steel fabricater in town which is handy for off cuts etc.....I am always rummaging in skips...🤓

Stermat in Colwyn Bay is amazing, i come from Colwyn Bay although i no longer live there, my mum still does so i'm there often. Its a real treat going into a hardware store and being able to find everthing i need, how do they do that?!

It is possible to detach driveshafts with screwdrivers, ropes, all sorts, i'm hoping the tool gives me an easier life...will see.
