Panda (Classic) Cheaper than a 360 conrod.

Introduction

I have kept this quiet for months, but after 3 trains and one bus.

I picked her up. Only a 3 hour drive back.

A 1995 Selecta with 82k on the clock. :D

Shes a bit of a shed, and by bit I mean alot.
Crap driver then. The Yaris is a nippy beast when driven correctly, misconception they're not as mainly OAPs and women who drive them. Need to keep the revs nice and high for the VVT to kick in. Mum's Yaris goes when kicked up the arse
Well we weren't drag racing he just struggled to keep up on a hill, I assume this is due to little power low down in the revs as you said you need to keep the revs high. It may be nippy but still a slower 0-60 than my GP (just...)

The Jelly wouldn't be allowed in Market Weighton, due to the fact it's bigger than Mr Bradley. ;)

(It's a 2006 Yaris, complete with a childseat.)

Those Yaris are a totally different car to the original, bit like comparing a classic panda to a new panda.

I got my bh clay yesterday so looks like fizzles getting fettled if selecta's not playing out Sunday.

The rota was supposed to be up yesterday, but it's not up today either. :( I will know tomorrow.

Speaking of the automagic, I don't know if I mentioned that the whistle is the cambelt tensioner. Also she understeers terribly, of course this could be the 300 year old tyres.

Here's what I've learned so far about Pandas from the forum.

If you can start it and get it running smoothly(ish) it's slow, doesn't like corners and may stop when apply mucho pressure to the pedal which may lock the wheels causing a skid. Oh and when changing gear fully depress the clutch pedal to avoid crunchy noises. Also Constant conversion of metal to rust.

Can't wait for my very own death trap money pit :D

I think the Selecta is heavier up front so that doesn't help. Also, with no engine braking it's easy to go into corners too quickly.

Most of my Pandas stick like glue to the road. There's a 270' bend leading up to a dual carriageway near me and even the white 4x4 on knobblies can gain enough of a lead on most cars around that bend that they need half a mile of the dual carriageway to catch up. :p

I did think of engine breaking, also the speedo being 10 mph out, means I just wing it.

I filled it up with petrol today, it achieved about 250 miles out of £39.90, I only filled up with £20 to see if the leak is because I overfilled it, but no it leaked still. It seems to be from the top, so maybe the pump seal?

Because it's a late Panda and it has the full length door cards and fancy a-pillars, i'm pretty sure the rear axle is different too, it doesn't have the spring cups? It's still terrible over speed bumps, but it does feel less archaic than the Parade. Speaking of the prettier one, maybe tomorrow?

If and it's the worlds biggest if, I get the Parade back. I think I may have to bring him along instead Scamp. :p

I've had to grab the wheel with both hands and pull hard, like a ships wheel in a perfect storm.
This sounds like my friends modified Seicento with it's 1.6 Astra (iirc) engine, the extra front end weight made the car impossible to steer around roundabouts at any speed.
He forgot to mention the colossal under steer to the bloke when he sold it on so we imagine he had an interesting journey home that day...

This seems worse than usual, it's caught me out a few times at roundabouts.
you'll find that a decent set of tyres will actually make a lot of difference. I don't think i ever driven a car where the tyres actually make such a massive impact.
My selecta was hopeless in any condition with the crappy tyres it came with (mixture of budget and very old premium tyres). I bought a set of decent 165/65, fitted them on a set of alloys and now I can pretty much tripod it at every roundabout. My main worry now is to not roll the car (standard springs), instead of the dreaded ditch-finding understeer :D
Obviously, you need to be a bit more careful in the wet, but that's with any car.

Oh, it's not that bad! all those potential 'flaws' add to the character of the car :D.

The radio only gets a signal if you touch the aerial. So I unbolted it from the wing and cleaned the contact up, which didn't make any difference.

I do get a perfect signal when the car is wet though.
Luckily the cassette player has a 3.5mm input. (y)

Panday was off to a bad start, I have never seen fog that thick.

While driving along, I had to slam-on. The battery light came on and then the car died. It fired back-up straight away.

Anyway heres some pictures of our Yorkshire adventure.

We met at Market Weighton which is halfway between us, we ended up not far from Driffield.

Looking at the Panda Map, Kolza is about the same distance away too. (y)
