cheap dash cam?

cheap dash cam?

Mine's a BlackVue 380G It's certainly small and discreet. It automatically goes into 'parking mode' where it records when it detects movement. You can also get a permanent power supply that stops it discharging the battery if you leave it too long.

Downsides are they aren't cheap. Mines an old SD one and number plates are unreadable. Every now and again it will stop working unless you reformat the SD card. The instructions say to do this weekly (Roadhawk instructions also say this).

The new ones that record in 1080p and can WiFi video to your phone look interesting, but even more not cheap.

I think Sludge Guts has but wasn't very impressed.

Not me. And I don't think the 0803 has been released properly yet, some people seem to be beta testing it.
It does look really promising although the manufacturer has really missed a trick - should have put the lens in the end rather than on the side, thereby presenting minimal aspect to the outside world.

I'm still using the old F70 dual cam in my car & now using a Mobius in the bus, the G1W is relegated to spare status at the moment although I have plans to use it in my car to cover the front with the F70's main lens covering my rear & 2nd lens covering my offside.
I'll probably get around to doing this just as my license expires.

Ok, like many previous posters on here,I've bought a dual lens (front and rear) camera like this

It seems pretty good. However, the instructions are worse than useless- I can't even work out how to set the date correctly! The big button is supposed to be the master menu, but seems only to switch the thing on and off. Anyone with one of these has any idea, please?

Also, the camera has a jack socket marked "AV out", but no cable. I've tried the rear camera- I can scroll from the screen showing just the front camera view, PinP with the rear as the pip, and solely the rear view- that isn't really good enough for reversing though on this screen.

I wondered if anyone has tried to connect the main unit from AV out to one of these? If so, did it need a special cable (if so, which one/where from) or did the supplied cables do the job?

Thanks

Actually, on the four F70 cams we have in this family, all of the menu buttons say "MEUN"

Wanted to add, just installed a 64GB kingston card in my Mobius. I can now get a full day's footage on the one card.
Officially, the Mobius only supports up to 32GB, various reports say it works OK with 64GB - and it's doing OK so far.

...belated thanks for the above advice re my F70. All sorted now. Why didn't I think of that?!--DOH!-- I'd been using the unit buttons, never even put the remote in the car (I have long arms!)

mine also says "MEUN" rather than "MENU"

I still haven't quite got around to this...I really should...

I'm not sure whether to go for the F70 with the dual lens setup...or go for the more discreet Mobius, which can be made more discreet with a lens extension...

The F70 can be had for around £40 (including hardwire kit) as opposed to £60+ for the Mobius (again, including hardwiring)

I used one of these

Thats the first link I found mind, you might be able to get it cheaper (y)

This is the footage quality :)

I know this post is a few months old...but the cheapest F70 type camera that states it records in .MOV (as opposed to AVI - which is apparently is the knock-off version) is this one:

I suspect it's the same seller with different names.

Mine does .mov.

Which is the knock off? MOV or AVI

AVI According to dashcamtalk forum - you got a good'un :)

It only works if the whole insurance industry signs up to it.
The few who offered discounts last year were quoting me far higher than those who didn't, and it wasn't even a case of the discounted price bringing the quote anywhere near, they were still £££s dearer.
My insurance is due at the end of the month so I'll give it another go.
