Technical Changing Instrument Panel LEDs

I managed to get the needles off by turning them clockwise a few times round. I changed led`s for white looks perfect now !
Here`s a few tips:
Use 5050 and 1206 led`s (check the bay i purchased 100 of each in white and also in red)
do not use warm white it is more like yellow
for desoldering carefully push a needle between the board and the middle of the smd this makes a special desoldering tool not needed.
Don`t use to much heat
Mark the `cut` corners of the old smd this indicates the direction of the current

wanting to do this , but could people confirm what LEDs i want to buy , id like to get it to look like the guy with the carbon wrapped parts , would all i need to buy is White Leds what are cool white 5050? or cool white 1206s? or will i need to buy red ones for were Red line is for the revs and temp gauge and that ??

i will be taking pictures and putting a guid up when i do it

Hi All,

I'm just beginning to do this now, so can anyone shed some light (no pun intended) on the following questions please?

1 - Did most people just change the orange LEDS in the dash cluster, i.e. leaving the warning lights, red/green/amber etc as the original colours

2 - I've been kindly given the pin outs to wire up the cluster to test it on a bench, which basically puts the cluster as if it was powered on, but i think i need to connect one extra pin to make it think the car headlights are on. Can anyone tell me which pin i need to connect to what i assume is a 12v switch supplied.
So far I've got pins 1+2 connected to a 12v live, and pin 7 connected to neutral.

Thanks in advance

D.

already replied in PM but for general info - there is no direct switch wire for the instrument cluster illumination - this info is sent on the can bus by the body computer (together with much, much other info...)

I changed only the orange leds in the panel but changed the ones on the red parts of the dails for red leds. When youre at it you can change also the leds in the other panels and door switches. Watchout some of the plastics arent the same white so check wit led flashlight. I made some leds in the radio AC red because of this. Happy soldering!

Did you change your lights? I just ordered 100 for both types in red and white. Looking forward to your guide.
