Technical changing h/light bulbs on 500

Heyy,

My bro just got me some H1 & H7 with some sidelights 501's or something, duno where these go?!?
Only prob is they say 100w? he didnt realise, bless him, tryin 2 be a nice lil bro lol!
Are these gona b rele bright???
yeah they will be quite a bit brighter, but the bigger problem is the heat they will create the 500 has plastic headlamp's so the base of the bulb could possibly melt the case.

It is possible that the additional wattage may also put too much load onto the electical system and of course there is the usual caveat in as much as they are illegal to use on the public roads.

100W Bulbs are for off-road use only

Anyone know if the Abarth 500 has the same poor headlights as other 500s?

Also on lighting, does the Abarth have an interior bootlight like Lounge spec 500s?

I apologise everyone, the MTEC ones I suggested are the wrong bulbs. They are single filament but the 500 takes dual filament bulbs. I found this out after one of my MTEC bulbs blew. I have searched the net and it is T20 7443 bulb type required. The only ones I have found are the ones Lloyd posted earlier in the thread.

Thinking of changing my lights but not happy with chavy blue so form this post I gathered:
- dip H7 philips xtreme cerca £22 Ebay
- main H1 not sure what matches the one above - suggestions please
- dlr 7443 double piaa £27.28- any one find anything cheaper?

Whatever the outcome to the above posted question is, its going to be quite useful to me, as I'm quite intent on changing all three. So far I've based all my car buying purchases (all one of them!) on the advice from all you knowledgeable people on the Forum. :)

why is it bizzar most people find the 500's headlamp's to be pretty poor and a simple and effective way of improving the cars night time safety is to change the bulbs, or like me doing it to make the car look better.

You could consider the Osram Nightbreakers for both the Dips and Main beams as the ones I bought off ebay were much cheaper than £22.00.

what a bizarre way to waste money on a car - 'upgrading' the headlights. why not 'upgrade' the windscreen or the seatbelts at the same time.

equally pointless.

If we could upgrade other features that related to safety I'm sure we would do. I don't see how being able to see further and clearer when driving of a night is 'pointless' in the slightest. If anything, it's a very good idea that could possibly save your life!

it's the day lights that I am finding expensive and only seem to have Piaa who do them.

I believe they're so expensive because they're normally a brake light bulb fitment, so they're pretty rare to come across as forward facing ones!
Unless you want red DRLs! ;)

I have put my low beam MTEC bulbs in and am really impressed with them. They look like HIDs/Xenons. Photos below. I also received my DRL bulbs through the post today but it's raining so they'll have to wait.

I've ordered the Osram H7s and silver indicator bulbs for the front from eBay which arrived today (will fit this weekend) - £15.40 & £14.95 respectively. Have ordered the DRLs as well, hope they arrive before the weekend.

Let me know how you get on with changing the indicator bulbs, I couldn't get them out!!!

If you ordered the DRL's from the link above they were very good and arrived the next day for me.

I fitted my chrome indicator bulbs today, yet again you need to turn them anti clockwise, not clockwise as the book suggests. But mine were really hard to get out, I had to use a pair of pliers to turn them. The left hand side was fine with the pliers but the right hand side was awkward due to the airbox.

Once you've removed them it's a piece of cake, just make sure they're level when being put back in and then use some pliers or similar again to refit them. (y)
