Croma changing air mass meter

ok after changing maf car went back to running like a bag of nails after a few hours of driving........ended up getting multiecuscan and a vag cable and found there were 2 faults.egr valve and mass air sensor.just had egr valve replaced at garage along with 2 rear springs which cost £281 in total.now after several long runs to test croma is running fine :D .mechanic told me the mass air fault often gets thrown up as well when theres an egr problem.so looks like the maf didnt need changed after all.thanks for everyones advice anyway.

This shows why often "computer diagnostics" are not the definitive truth in diagnostics. Today many garages "plug in" read code, replace part, same problem, try again, and again ........

Decent dignostics will give you reliable HARD failures. Unplug any lead and you will get decent hard failure errors. However in integrated fully closed loop systems (like fueling, EGR, boost, etc.) then any small malfunction in one component can easily manifest itself as a fault in another loop component.

This is exactly what you have just experienced.

An EXPERIENCE and LOGIC counts for more that just a reported faut code.

When fitting a new air flow meter should it work straight away as soon as you fit it or would you need to drive a few miles for it to take effect?
