Hi guys

I'm having a problem with my multi-changer cd unit in my Stilo. I was driving home last night when the cd that I was listening to suddenly for some reason paused itself, and now will not un-pause. I can't do anything with it, not even eject any of the 5 CD's. I can still listen to the radio though.

The user manual is particularly useless as far as trouble shooting goes for the CD changer. Any ideas? I haven't contacted my dealer yet as I thought that you guys may have more of an idea.

Any help or advice will be much appreciated.

Cheers in advance

Sound like a fault whith the changer itself. If its stuck on the cd and the mechanism inside is bust , it will not eject cds, but the lights sometimes flash all the time on the cd changer

Thanks

Have phoned my local dealer who pretty much echoed what you've said. Only problem is that my Stilo is now 18 months old and Blaupunkt only give a 12 month warranty :( So looks like they won't be replacing it F.O.C.

Can you check exact model number of that changer?
I'm looking correct changer to my stilo !
Is it Blaupunkt? Thanks !

Car has 3 years warranty so that should include the radio/ irrespective of the Blaupunkt warranty. I don't think there is an exclusion on the warranty.

Even so under the sale of good act it shuld be fit for purpose and design and use. Which also means it should lasst a reasonable time and 18 months is quite short and should be reasonably expected to last longer than that.

Trading standards could advise you on this.

Also it is not uncommon and is European law that electronic goods have a minium of two years warranty. I would say that car radio's come into this catagory.

Radios do only have a 12 month warratry. If you read the warranty details, everything replaced under warranty is subject to fiat authorising the work. (Fiat Clause). Its completey up to fiat to what they replace and have the right to say no.If blaupunkt only give it a 12 month warranty then 18 months is a reasonble time providing it has been used correctly as per the instructions. Better just to take it to a radio shop. Its probaly just mechanism fault.

I phoned my local Fiat garage again, who very kindly made a few phone calls on my behalf. I'm not sure exactly who they called but they have now replaced the unit completely free of charge and the CD changer now has a new 12month warranty! :D

They had to try to fit 2 units in the end as the first didn't actually work properly, and it was new out of the box!

Thanks for all of your advice.

Good news :)

I was going to say that a manufacturer's warranty is in addition to your statuatory rights under the sale of goods act, not in place of, so argue for a new one. But it's purely academic now.
