You ushould do but you need to partition the hard drive as they have a Specially designed front end that only boots the basics and gives you a very simple navigation screen. With these front ends the computer will boot in about 10 seconds. If you want the net or other Computer funtions then its best have another OS like windows that you can specify to load it seperately. I think that makes sense sorry im Dyslexic not very good at explaining things. I am worried about his computer being part of the sub box as unless he has solid state hard drive the vibrations will cause trouble, but fair play to the guy i havnt even loaded the software on my Carputer let alone get as far as he has got.

u need to be running a solid state HDD it will only take a shock on a write cycle to screw your hole HDD something like this (will also lower boot times) its a tryed and tested normaly HDD's dont work

as for the power, PC's will eat power just like amps all depending on spec of PC but look

12 watts/12 volts = 1 amp

(and your PC more like 300watt)

300 watts/12 volts = 25 amp

Hope this helps Tom

No its fine using a 2.5" Hard Drive most people do use them and my case has rubber feet on the components that take the vibration spec is as follows.
2 Ghz Processor
120 Gig Hard Drive
1 gig ram
Bluetooth
and i think that i need to add a modem.
Car wiring is a much higher ampage than that in the house that is why it is so thick as normally the high Ampage of amps and such like would burn out the thinner house wire.

still think a soild state HDD is needed its only a matter of time b4 it fails. At college we study the effects of vibrations, shocks, magnets and other things and trust me non of them help. It only has to slip a few thousands of a millimeter and wave good buy to it

i was saying about power consumption not on how think the wire should be
