Car not able to idle!

Looking for a bit of advice please!

My bro's Astra is horizontally challenge. Allow me to explain!

First it would not start. Then it did, and in order to keep the engine going, constant acceleration had to be applied. If not, the engine would simply cut out. He has managed to drive it just down the road doing the above. Anyone have any ideas what could be the prob?

idle control valve! is it an eco-tec engine by any chance?

Anything done to the engine before it started to do this ?

Car is just a 1.6 Club - nothing done at all before that problem occurred :s

Stuck in some injector cleaner/fuel treatment etc and the same thing hasn't happened before. Although I'd been advised that before the above happened, it used to, and still does cut out when reversing (1 in 10 chances this will happen).

Been too busy to have it checked out properly etc, so still wondering what it might be
