I have a Panda 2005 4x4 climbing. Out of the blue, the power lights comes on and the car loses all power. Once we restart the car, regains power to a certain degree and it can take hours before the engine light goes off. This doesn't happen often but it is dangerous when one has traffic behind and I have to pull to the side.

Get a cheap scanner and read the code would be a good start
I take it we are talking about the engine check light
C reader 30001 can be had for under £15 and give access to the live data from some of the sensors
