Whilst daydreaming of completing my project - what are the opinions on the independent front suspension systems that are available with coilovers?
I currently have a very low front spring and standard shocks
Is it too stiff a setup for road use?

I am told by those that have had a 'wishbone' front suspension fitted that it makes for a very good handling car. If you want to buy from the UK, try Kelvyne Baker. He runs a business down in Somerset called 'Latifa Estates'
([email protected]). he has worked on a LOT of 500s and has quite extensive experience on them and makes a sensible looking set-up--feel free to use my name as an intro if you think that it will help.

Hi Andy; how is your health theses days--I hope things are progressing positively. That is one heck of a vehicle specification you have--what did you fit to up-rate your clutch?

At what power output should I be considering up-rating the driveshaft joints to the tripod C.V. kits?
I estimate an out put around 50 H.P. and the car will only be road use

A potential spanner in the works is the quality of the rubber isolators that are available now, compared to when people were pushing the limits back in the day when factory parts were still in supply. If they last a reasonable amount of time, and given that they are so easy to change out, I suspect it makes sense to stick with them.

When I looked last year, there didn't seem to be a reliable source of cv's and spares.

As for the shafts, unless you do a lot of hot standing starts, you should normally see a good amount of twist before you get any breakages. So it should be easy to spot if you are going to have any issues here. I suspect the only alternative here is to get some custom made shafts in better quality material, but then you move the extra loads onto your diff. ;)

Greetings,
I appreciate that this question may be slightly off topic, but, are the 25mm drive shafts good enough for 50+ BHP, or is a racing quality item needed and available??

Ian.

They'll be fine. The weakpoint will be the flexible joints. Just don't do too many wheel spin starts!
