@Charley,

This may be a touch pedantic but telling someone to buy a dictionary when you have no apparent grasp of the apostrophe is quite laughable.

This is an Internet forum not a primary school English class.

Just my 2p ;)

just to confirm what tom is saying, the pads would have made the biggest difference. Discs are just lumps of metal in basics, where as pads are made up many different materials/composits, these are the things that make a difference, he isnt attacking you scotty, it is fact that your car brakes better, tom agrees, but he is say thats mainly (almost entirely) down to the pads.

Also, drilled discs often get cracks from hole to hole even when brembo make them.

Bad idea to drill you own, although i understand your theory, but just dont.

All due respect Paul i disagree the pad in qeustion is MINTEX EXTREME i have used this same pad on solid discs on the same road and they dident LAST as LONG as drilled and grooved when they work they work that same but they dont LAST AS LONG, FACT yet again.

Thats what im saying the brakes work for longer under hard use,i dont know what else to say!!

Infact i do NOTHING!!!!

re

I had drilled discs on my brava and they cracked in about 6 months

if you look at a brand new evo they dont come with drilled or grooved discs. flat plain discs - braking is about surface area contact surely? i dont think a few holes or grooves help disapait any heat when your brake discs are glowing!

i wouldn;t bother with just groved and drilled. why not save money in the long run and do a proper upgrade. like brembo. then you will notice the differance.

Scotty i should have said more when i posted to your original post but was in a rush to get out the door.
Sorry.
The plain standard discs as Ton has mentioned are normally produced in Iron and hardened before being finished and boxed for the end user.
I used to run a foundry near where i live now and for the 10 years i did that i can tell you that using a heavy duty pro bench drill and trying to drill through iron if the drill bit hits an inclusion in the casting it will make a mess of your drill bit and your casting.
I'm not surprised your local foundry said no mate.
And you probably know this but just to mention it, that while driving and braking on normal discs and pads under heavy braking the feeling of loosing pedal and the car not stopping so well is due to a gas build up between the pad and the disc.
Grooved discs or drilled discs help to reduce this affect by venting the gasses away from the pads through the holes or along the discs helping you to have a better braking pedal for longer.
I understand your wanting to drill your discs to help your braking to improve but please for your own safety and others on the road don't try it.
Sorry i couldn't spend the time typing this lot out yesterday.

"Can you drill discs your self?"

And the prize for dumbest question goes to...
