Hey guys... I have a 02 punto and it has started to use up water very quickly.

We thought at first it might be the head gasket but the oil doesn't appear to have water in it.

Anybody got any ideas or had a similar problem on what it could be... and how much it would be to fix??

Thanks :)

Coolant do you mean? Plain water will lead you into a world of pain ... maybe you've arrived.... Coolant either leaks or goes out of the exhaust pipe so try to prove one or the other, some leaks only show when he car is being driven, others drip when stopped. Do you get steam from the exhaust at all...? Some is normal at start - up. Dont forget to feel the carpets under the dashboard for a heater matrix leak, HG is a common problem when the coolant system fails for any reason, the main culprit is pure water & time.... so look around the engine & pipework / coolant pump.

Thankyou for the tips.... I will check those things out. Hopefully its something simple =)

You could use a pressure testing kit (small bike pump connected to a valve on the expansion bottle cap). Pressurise the coolant & watch it drain out of the tank then go look for it. It could be the HG breached into one of the pots, it could be a gasket on the water pump, split hose or even dodgy jubilee clip. There are loads of joints and conections you need to examine to determine where the coolant is going.
And mayo in the oil can also be a sign of loads of short journeys.
