Cams

Im looking for a fastroad cam for my 1.4 too, If you find anything let me know!

Re: Cams

I am looking for a set of fast road cams for my 1.6 as well but I cant come across any as yet. Not even Kent cams have any.

Re: Re: Cams

Have you phoned Kent, Piper, Crane etc...

They might not list them on their website but they can probably regrind you a cam.

nope

Nah, Kent, Piper etc do not do them due to a lack of demand. However I have aksed a number of Italian contacts if there is anything in the home land that I could get hold of and ship over.

Met the guy from Autodelta last Sunday, he is running a 280BHP GTV and a 166 2.0 both supercharged. There does not appear to be much in the way of cams like there used to be, is this becuase of the engine management systems these days - what you reckon Tom - are fast road cams "old skool"! Oh for a 1600 twin cam from the old days!

Re: nope

I'm sure if you asked Kent or Piper they would regrind for you. They will do anything if you pay them enough.

Not sure I'd be willing to guess a spec at £200 a throw + new cams for when you get it wrong.

The prob is that most new engines do breath quite well and lumpy cams just make them undrivable. Race spec cams for my CBR1000 engine are only 254deg duration, race spec for my old mini was 300deg!!! Shows how well a 16 valver breathes compared to an iron A series. 254deg on a mini is warm road, not even fast.

Re: Re: nope

I have a Marea 1.8 and is on the garage today getting cams fitted. Is in Denmark though, but the cams are Colombo & Bariani and should be the best in the market...And is available for all fiat engines...

Re: Re: Re: Re: nope

I will!!! Should get it back Friday...
Expecting very good results from it :)
Tomorrow the cams should be fitted, the Friday should be mounted a piggyback computer and adjusted in the dyno...So now all my additions to the car should work optimized :)

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: nope

Wow, they don't have do a few cams. Seems the only car they don't cater for is the HGT147.

which one have you gone for? The 260 or 290?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: nope

what would be the bhp for a pair of cam upgrades.

1.2 ?
1.4 ?
1.6 ?
1.8 ?
2.0 ?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: nope

No figures.

No point in just looking at the top power, you need to see a comparison of pre and post power across the rev range. If you go too mental you loose mid and low power and the car will be a dog around town.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: nope

Actually they do carry for the HGT also...
Didnt go with the very sharp cams because the mechanic told me they DO give more HP but at very high RPM...So the car would be actually worse than actually is under 4k RPM, but then it would kick in the power...with the other ones it will give less HP increase, but much more torque and performance in the mid range RPM. So really the choice of the 290 is not good unless u like to drive always up to 7k or something...

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: nope

You getting the ECU chipped as well?

My italian is dreadful so I won't be phoning them to get specs for the 1.6 cams.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: nope

What do you want to know? I can try to get you info...
All info is in my mechanics page, they are the distributors in DK and i believe maybe they can send to UK...I am getting not a chip but a "piggyback" which is an extra box that runs with the original box. The car is put on the dyno at different RPMs and the piggyback is programmed to change all (fuel/air mix, rev limit, all!!!). So with this all the add ons the car has should work optimal (sports manifold, k&n, cams, ...). Dont know until Friday how much I will gain, but he said 25-35 HP is not out of the question. Tomorrow I will know how many HP the car had before the cams & box also...

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: nope

Any idea what make the box is?

25-35BHP sounds reasonable, have to see what it does over the whole range though, that the important bit.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: nope

The box is unichip

The results should be a lot of torque in mid range
but when i get a print out i try to post it here...
im very excited :)

Cams

Hi YoGIS,

I have a Brava 1.8ELX similar engine with your Marea. And I am interested in the C&B cams. I am looking for a set of fast cams that can be swapped directly with the original one without any modifications. If possible, without the use of Unichip. If they do have, can you email me the part no. and where can I purchase it online.

Thanks,
Syed.
