My 100hp Panda engine is finally going back together following a broken valve spring. So I replaced all sixteen springs along with the head bolts and various gaskets. It's all taken a long time as I have been away a lot in my motorhome or had people visiting.
Anyway, I fitted the cambelt today. The Haynes manual was not very specific about tensioning it. The manual says it should be 'quite taut'. I expected some guidance a bit more scientific than that. I searched the web for further guidance and discovered a sound measuring app called Carltune. You put your smartphone microphone near the belt and give it a twang. The phone then tells you what the sound frequency is. The chap on the web who demonstrated it said the manufacturer recommended about 145Hz so I went for the same frequency. The app is surprisingly consistent but best used when motorbikes aren't going past nearby!
The amount of tension seems a sensible amount to me. It is 'quite taut'!'
