Technical Cambelt change needed?

i have the multijet,

No belt to worry about on the Multijet.. We have a timing chain which should be good for 200,000 + miles if the oil is changed to shcedule - you will notice that the hand book don't even consider replacing it
as for the 8V fire, I wouldn't bother for a good 10 years (safe engine) and 16V fire I did my self a couple of times on a 1.2 Brava - it's not so hard as long as it all goes back as removed - just don't loosen the cam gear nut as it's not keyed - so a mirical is needed to set it... suppose the financial risk is not comparible on a £1000 car (5 tears ago).

I got my belt changed at 5 years/65k as advised by my local dealer (Research Garage).

The belt which was removed was visibly in fine condition and nowhere near breaking. I would never condone ignoring service schedules, but I would certainly say that there is no need to get it changed ahead of your service schedule, especially if your car has been serviced on schedule by a main dealer up to that point.

I would say though, for the sake of an extra £100, it's well worth getting the water pump changed at the same time. It's likely to fail soon after the new belt is fitted and you'll have to get a new belt fitted when the pump is changed anyway.

My 100HP MOT is in May so I will ask the dealer to check the cambelt then unless it snaps before.

Whats the link between dealer and MOT

you can't tell the condition of the belt by looking as its internal ware, nor can the dealer or anyone for that matter they can only check age and millage, just like anyone else, unless you are not sure of the service history and are hopeing that it's already been done by the dealer, and is on record.

Got the work carried out at the start of the month so I thought I would update with the costs.

To supply and fit the new cambelt and waterpump it was £219.00 including VAT.

A bit pricey but worth knowing that its been done at the correct time by a garage that I trust.

On another note, the 100HP passed its MOT without any issues

I don't think that's silly money, mine was done for £190 - but that was a bargain.
