I'm in the middle of changing the cam belt on my 1.9 jtd.

the dte manual says rotate in normal direction of rotation to line
marks on camshaft to the camshaft cover.

not sure if i rotated in the right direction and jumped the belt as it
is stiff in both directions. the manual only shows the top marks and
i'm not sure if the crankshaft is lined up properly!!!! !

At TDC, the crankshaft mark is facing to the rear of the car, i
expected it to either straight up or down.

HELP please.

the manual doesn't show any marks/positions for the crank.

I have the tensioner and pulley to replace with the belt but i'm not
taking belt off until 100% sure of the correct alignment of the marks.

I did mark everything up before removal.

I was unsure as to why the the crankshaft pulley mark had no manufacturer mark to line up with!!!!!!

As it happens, looking at the dte manual again, when it shows the fitting of the crankshaft tdc tool, the little alignment peg used for that and the crankshaft pulley for the aux belt is at bottom dead centre.

all fitted now so when i turn the crank 2 turns the the camshaft goaes bacvk to tdc as it should.

put it all back together and runs fine.

the only thing i couldn't change was the timing belt fixed tensioner as the bolt on the old metal tensioner didn't fit the new plastic version ie not long enough due to the bolt being recessed in the old tensioner.

i have done cambelt changes before on other cars and lost a little confidence.

Hi
You mention a manual. Where did you get it from as I can only get the Fiat one as one this site. Any help appreciated - especially with ABS light on probs.
Thanks

The manual I have is on a CD and is interactive.

You can get them off of a well known auction site.
