Cambelt Change?

Hi Folks, First post here, please be gentle!! I would be grateful for your thoughts on when to change the Cambelt, I've a 02 1.2 16V Stilo, 47k done and never been driven hard, should I take the plunge and go for it seeing as the motor is now 6 years, even though the mileage is fairly low?
I've been quoted £240 from a local Fiat dealer for belt and tensioners replacement excluding pump, Is this a fair price?, and is the water pump replacement strictly necessary?

I'm hoping to hold on to the motor for another year or so, as it has given me very little trouble :)

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Plenty of members on here have had it done for £150 from a main dealer but you must mention "FiatCare".

You could ask the garage to check pump for signs of wear/leaks but I'd recommend you add at least a pump lubricant additive if you don't change it.

Thanks for the prompt response Lads :D,
Argo, thanks for the heads up on "Fiat Care", can I ask does this apply any of the 3 levels of service care?, and which pump additive do you recommend?

Cheers!

Yes; you can add any service level or indeed just pay for the cam belt change on it's own.

I haven't actually added one to mine yet (must do soon) so was kinda hoping you might play guinea pig ;)

Re: Cambelt Change?

What is involved in the cam belt change? Do they have to remove the cam cover? I'm needing to replace my cam cover gasket but also need to do the cam belt in the next month so wanted to know if it's worth me doing the cam cover gasket or whether fiat do it as part of the cam belt change.

Regards
Dave

Mine is in Tuesday for Gold Service + Brake Fluid Change + Cambelt. Understand that the 150 of the Fiat Care cambelt change excludes the tensioner and that the full kit including tensioner adds 30-40 quid to the cost

Fiat said they would advise if there are any water pump issues :)

I've got an invoice to prove otherwise (and from area main dealer too) The job should include the full belt which in turn gets discounted.

I'll let you see a copy if it helps.

Re: Cambelt Change?

i take it the fiat care is the care you take out when you first purchase the car, is this correct
No it's not Kev.

Your Stilo must be at least 3 years old before you can use FiatCare.

Oddly enough, it means your car is cheaper to service after its 3 year dealer warranty has expired than before :)

So, You just say Fiat care and its like a secret password to get discount of a service from a Fiat dealer????

I feel very robbed from my last service, - 4 or 5th from new I think - had the brake pads and brake discs changed whole thing cost me over 500 quid!!

Sort of ;) If you don't actually mention you want the job done under Fiatcare then you'll likely get charged quite a bit more :( (can be a lot more for say a cam belt change)

Don't think all dealers participate though - so always check first.
