re: Cam belt Average Price (1.2 & 1.6)

I've probably said this a million times but its always worthwhile changing the water pump whilst doing this depending on what engine you have (ie is the water pump driven by the cam belt).

You need a "cam belt Kit" + waterpump. The kit includes new tensioners and is more than double the price of just the belt. Change all them and you should be troube free for a while.

1.6 16v is on the auxillery belt so no need to be done, but good advice anyway for other engine'd Stilo's(y)

re: Cam belt Average Price (1.2 & 1.6)

Hello Lads,
I am in cork,in ireland and have been quoted €350 euro for belt alone and €85 for waterpump.
Is this a good price by a fiat garage or should just get the local mechanic to quote?
Anyone got any ideas what i would need to get to get all this done on 1.2 stilo 2003?
i.e what parts as i would get quotes from fiat and the uk part suppliers which ye recommend.Car has 48k on it.Is it too soon to change water pump?

Kind regards,

Kieran

Hi daithi,
Two fiat garages in cork, grandons in glanmire & old chapel in bandon is €350 based on it been about 2 1/2 hours work.
Grandons also said that because car has 48k and first cambelt, water pump wouldnt need changing.

Wonder if the guys here reckon water pump should be changed?

regards

kieran

re: Cam belt Average Price (1.2 & 1.6)

The 1.2 is quite an easy job and I'd definitely recommend changing the water pump at the same time otherwise you will regret it.I did my own cambelt on my Bravo 1.2 (same engine) so i didnt mind the work. Cambelt at 55k - water pump went at 65k. You get the message?

have been quoted €350 euro for belt alone

I'm sure you dont mean "just the belt" as you MUST change the tensioner too

Belt and tensioner would be around £50 to buy here and £100 job to change

Water pump £40 and an extra £30 labour as they are already there for the cam belt change

So around £220 -about 300 euros

BUT you'll want to change your aux drive belt at the same time and that would push you close to the 350 euros

Point to note is that many garages quote the price for a cambelt kit change then you ask them "How much to change the water pump at the same time?" they look up the standard price for a water pump change and add the figures together- duh! Most of the job of gaining access to the pump is already done -so it's an integrated job
