Honesty57 and I are going to buy a new PC and give our existing one to our daughter for our grandson Samuel now the one we have been looking at is at PC World and and is the Packard Bell2469 Desktop-Intel Pentium D820 processor with a 19" wide screen TFT monitor your opinions would be very helpful in our final decision :) Thank you to all that reply (y)

Personally, I wouldn't buy a Packard Bell, let alone go into PC World and buy it.

What budget do you have, Phil? And apart from posting on forums :p, anything else you want it for? :chin:

The PC World PB2469 is here:

Judging by both of your replies then we will pass on that :D this going to be a nightmare I can see it coming  our budget is around the £600 mark but we need a new printer/scanner for Junes office work and we need the 19" screen because of my eyesight our Oldest son Chris is very capable of building one we are just looking to get what we want with the least amount of hassle and as quickly as possible so that we can pass this PC on :) June has just said that Tesco's are doing good deals have any of you any info on this also (y)

I'm sure I have read on here that dell are rubbish  is this right and have you had much trouble with yours beau [apart from self infliction that is ];)

Dell arn't rubbish, most companies use Dell pc's as workstations.

Only issue is there isn't a Dell shop you can take it back to if it breaks. Good deal there by Beau - Free Vista upgrade when its released - nice!

As for all that pre-installed stuff, that's what 'add/remove programs' is for :D

So if we by a Dell and it goes wrong how do we go about sorting it out will we get a call out repair man or what

sure, all of mine have gone wrong, but i abuse them! my laptop, **** me, that got abused, and it kept on going even i dropped it from about 4 ft up onto wooden floor and the screen came apart  (y) it was so reliable

my new dell desktop, thats been making funny noises, but it still works, and i have knocked it over a few times i suppose.

and if they wasnt reliable why would many banks and companies have them? ;)

Dell kit comes with a return-to-base warranty unless you pay extra for on-site. i.e. you have to send it back for repairs. That said, Dell stuff is very high quality and unlikely to break down. If I didn't build my own systems I would more than likely buy from Dell.

As for a printer, forget anything made by HP/Lexmark. The ink for these machines is extortionate. Epson make very good printers and compatible cartridges for most Epsons can be had off eBay for under £1.50 each :)

You get brand new print heads with a HP each time you change the cartridge. 3rd party carts are nearly as good as genuine HP carts. Epson are good for photo printers, but for office work HP dominate.
