the S&S is designed and built by Bosch, and the Blue and Me is Microsoft.

Ford also use Microsoft for their 'Sync' system, which by all accounts works a lot better. I wonder if Fiat gave Microsoft too low of a budget.

Don't forget that B&M is quite a few years old now - the architecture is basically the same as it was from some years ago. I don't find B&M that bad - shame it's a little buggy, but they do regularly release updates, which is not bad at all for a car manufacturer.

An update of my S&S issues. Had car for over 18 months. S&S never really worked. Had car in dealership for a non related warranty issue. Got them to also do the coil pack replacement. S&S now seemed to be more inclined to work, still very erratically and always kicked the engine back on after some 10 seconds. Car was back in for more warranty work (very long story). Anyway, I insisted they also do a software update. Got car back yesterday and S&S has worked flawlessly over some 100 odd miles. Driving through a very busy Glasgow city centre it worked every time, even with air con on.
So touch wood it looks like the software update has finally got this thing working.

ive had this problem a few times when i hold the car on the clutch at biting point in traffic. took it to the garage a few weeks ago and they said it was a sensor for the start stop function. took it in this week and they say its been fixed however it came on this morning. i think its just my fault as i know you shouldnt really keep the car on the biting point in traffic. hope this helps you guys!

Our postman is now driving what looks like a 500L van, I had to smile because as he drew up the stop-start stopped the engine. Whilst he's in the back of the van sorting packages to find my package the van starts.

In past posts I reported that ours works all the time, now it rarely works all the time.

Also we've had rats eating our wiring and other stuff which may, or may-not be relevant, they prefer Fiat though haven't the Italians been more famous for their cuisine than the Germans. (Sheepish smile)

It shouldn't, if drivers door opens when SS is activated its supposed to deactivate for safety reasons

Our old Lounge did the same until its first service, software update fixed it.

After so long it will restart to prevent battery discharge. It only works in neutral so I can't see a safety risk myself.

Natural or not if the drivers door is opened the SS deactivates and SS unavailable comes up on the dash.

On top of safety it's also illegal in the UK for engine to the running and no-one in the drivers seat.

That's only effective if children are in the car, it is not compulsory to stop the engine when you get out the car, also in some cars you have to check oil level when the engine is running e.g BMW 1 Series. If it's illegal to leave the engine running and not be sitting in the drivers seat all BMW 1 series owners are stuffed.

Are breakdown companies exempt from this law if they are looking at a vehicle on a roadside and need the engine running??????

I very much suspect that the law will state that you're not allowed to leave a car running and be a certain distance away from it.

The fines enforce Rule 123 of the Highway Code, which says: 'If the vehicle is stationary and likely to remain so for more than a couple of minutes, you should switch off the engine to reduce emissions and oil pollution.

Hi,

The offence MEP is referring to is known as Quitting and is enforced in the uk by the Road Vehicles (construction and use) Regulations.

It's an offence to leave a vehicle running or with its hand break not applied when you are not attending to it, or someone who holds a valid license to drive it is attending to it on a public highway.

There are several exemptions for emergency vehicles, or recovery vehicles etc that require the engine to be running in order to operate equipment.

You don't have to technically be in the drivers seat though to be attending to the vehicle.

As MEP also says it should state in the SS section of the owners manual, that when the drivers door is opened when SS is active, the vehicle will only restart again with the key.

I have a panda 2012 twin air turbo. The stop start has not worked for 10 months.I had a service at stoneacre Grimsby and asked them to sort out.
They reported that no fault was found and that the battery just needed charging. I bought a smart charger and charged the battery. What do you know the s/s still did not work.I rang them and was told to take it back in not bad with a 80mile round trip. Took it back waited 2 hrs in there reception. The service guy came to me and said that the technician had checked it and found no fault. He had test driven it and it worked perfectly.I had a test drive with the technician he got it to work three times out of 8 attempts. he the waffled on that the stop start would not work if the windscreen wipers were turned on or the heater fan. He also said the the fiat stop start was inferior to other manufacturers. Can anyone tell me if 3 out of 8 stop start success rate is normal. By the way it has not worked since I collected it from the garage.

If the smart charging improved it from not working at all to working sometimes it would imply that perhaps the battery is no longer up to the job. My SS works faultlessly even with wipers or heater on. You should also get your dealer to load the latest software as a 2012 car may not have it. Maybe give it another charge with the smart charger and see.

Thanks merky i think the problem is that the battery check comes in as a good battery,so fiat will not replace with a warranty battery replacement. I will check with there service dept to see if any new software has been installed. To be honest its as if i am dealing with conmen
