I would definitely log it. The more people who complain the more likelihood they will fix it.
Yep, I agree. It helps if they can't say, "nobody else has had this problem", and if people don't log it, they can say that...

Sounds promising. Let's hope it's just a faulty batch of detectors or somethingmy car currently with fiat for an extended stay to try to resolve this stop start issue-
after cold starting it and maneuvering this morning, the usual 'trigger' points, they have uncovered a fault code- basically the gear position sensor not functioning properly...they think this is the cause-
im pretty sure some one else has had this replaced- without reading every page of this EXCEPTIONALLY long thread.....is that the case?...because i also think i remember that not working!

i think my 500 has been fixed!!!!!!!!...tho the last time i said that on here....i tempted fate a little too much!
new gear lever position sensor (and entirely new, completely different gear lever and leather housing with metal inserts that i love!)...seems to have done the trick!
Bugger..... at least you have the luxury of not being the first person with the problem. Hopefully others will have the problem sorted soon.Heck! Nipped to shop today and noticed the warning light and the start/stop inactive light, and a message saying start/stop unavailable. This was after manoeuvring out of a pretty tight parking space on my street. This is the first time it's happened, but then I've only had the car for four days. I stopped and restarted and it was fine. I had a feeling that if I posted on here saying 'so far, so good' I would start having problems - sod's law!
jim
it came up on the diagnostic after the 3 day stay in the dealership-
nothing mentioned about the ECU- the first i heard of this fix was yesterday on here!
had it back since last tuesday- just manouvered normally and used the s/s as intended, its been fine- car seems more driveable now too- i presume this sensor also affects ease of gear changes/revs as changing gear etc...its just a much much nicer gear change....and much nicer gear shifter tactility too.
pleased person.![]()
And what about the new gear lever? Did you get that because they said it was part of the fix?
I ask because we've had the gear lever sensor replaced, but not the gear lever...
communication not great from service, i thought it was part of the same fix- tho i didnt know till i got in the car....
anyway...guess what....
