If the voice coil is melted, it could cause your amp to switch off as the +ve and -ve of the amps outputs are effectively wired together.

Yep, the amp will have gone into a self-protect mode to avoid being cooked!

ok i had a look, re wired the sub n 6x9s turned the amp rite down, works fine,, until i turn it up the gets really bad disstortion n switches off.

what will i do?? will i have to tka eit sumwhere n get it completely re-wired?

xxxx

Are you turning the "gain" on the amp right up?

(very) Rough amp setup guide:

1. Turn all your amp gains down to 0 or minimum
2. Turn all your head unit bass / treble etc to 0
3. Set your 6x9 crossover to around 100hz and sub to about 80hz.
4. Play your favourite girly CD
5. Turn the head unit up until you can hear distortion, then turn it back down 2 clicks. This gives you the maximum for your head unit.
6. Now with the head unit playing at the level found in 5., turn the amp gain up on the 6x9 channel until you can hear distortion, then back it off slightly, then same with the sub channel.

Now you've found the optimum gains for your HU & amp, you can have a bit of a play with the bass and treble settings, but these should only need 1 or 2 clicks, not full whack!

that seems sensible, tried what you sed but no no avial

one of my mates came out to have a look, n just laughed

apparently ive to buy 3m of gold wire n a box of clips n stuff, n give him the car for an hour.

sed its the wiring to the speakers n subs like what u guys sed. its just a mess. oh and asked if my sub was designed to run in open air box?? i dunno???

cheers guys xxx:worship:

Could it be possible that the wiring is too light a gauge, Paul? :chin:
It may be worth doing the big 3 too..................

The kenwood sub can be placed in any type of enclosure, IE sealed, ported or open air :)

Edit:
Just looked up and it says sealed/ported box is recommeneded for it. Though i swear on the box of mine it mentioned free air too :?
Well technically its a really big sealed box!!:p xxx

its a gold colour n thicker than usual wires , he dont want nothin, just an hour of gettin to be in my company while he fittin it!! lol :p ;) xxx

Thicker is a good start, especially if its free :)

The wires arent, il get a second opinion tomz dont wanna go buyin a new wiring kit when thats not the problem xxx

I'm confused now. If you're gonna do it, do it properly and get thicker wire in there and make sure you don't have a power startvation going on. :) (y)

lol i meant the wires arent free, can tell ur welsh! :p :) xxx

Ahh, you mean the power cables have to paid for, but the speaker wire is free?

Is it that obvious I'm Welsh? :slayer:

Surely you can't be using the factory speaker wire? a. I don't think there will be any for the rear (???) and b. it's a custom install, surely whoever did it used proper speaker wire???? If they haven't then slap them in the chops and never go back there again.

Which leaves either the amp power feed or a speaker / sub voice coil.

The amp isn't massive pulling loads of current, so unless whoever fitted used insanely thin power cables, then I would assume that'd be OK.

Which leaves just the voice coils again

Alaina, any chance of some pics of the wires feeding your speakers and amp? It might be possible to tell if there too small.

One last thing, how powerful is your amp?

no lol tis not the factory wires, ok full story
1. install was fitted by team wizzard of xsmotorsport. very professional job done, including big fat blue wire and silver wire( live n earth i think??) big fat gold wires were soldered on to plate on the sub and 6x9s.
2. alaina blow uo 6x9s coz i was pressin buttons on hu :bang:so replaces and wires up with the wires u get with the 6x9s
3. body shop pinch cinq n mess about with install ( obiviosly not there forte)
4. the big fat power wire n earth n rc n the ones to hu r all origional and fine
BUT the origional gold wires that were hooked up to the amp and 6x9s have been changed.
there are still coming from the amp to make it all look good on the surface but underneath they are connected to they normal wires u get with a sub or 6x9s ( those lil grey ones) so in effect theres a join there.

hope that makes sense.
what my mate was sayin is to buy new gold wire n wire the 6x9s and sub up the way they used to be. im not taking pics coz ul laugh!! xxx
