yup need to go investigating.what were you out driving so late? ;)

you wont have melted an amp, as the vast majority of them these days have a heat cutout circuit, so when they get too hot due to bad heat transfer, they just turn off.

The burning smell could be you cooking the voice coils of the speakers, this is usually evident when youve had the tunes out loud to the limit of the speakers, and the distortion/clipping starts to come into play.

Lastly, the burning is most likely to be the wiring. If you arent using thick enough wiring, then it will start to cook. Its not just the amp power wires that need to be thick, the speaker wire needs to be of a suitable thickness too, otherwise they have a tendancy to melt ;)

Unfortunately its going to be a case of tracing all the wiring all the way through for melting/ed wires (and if there are any they will need to be replaced and upgraded!), check the speakers. And if your amps are mounted in an install, you will most likely need to think about the cooling a bit more :)

Hmm..........65W RMS - 16 gauge speaker cable is what you need. Plenty thick enough - people put over 100W RMS through 16 gauge cable. I would have 12 gauge for the sub though.

Don't need to worry about forced cooling on the amp - its open to the air.

need to re wire the lot??? oh fcuk! thats gonna be a hell of alot of work! should i try changing the 6x9s first? xxx

Check the 6x9s first. Try playing them off another HU if you can, if there is no apparent damage. What gauge speaker wire did you use?

:spin: pass. um there gold if that helps?

rallycinq says i need to sort out my wiring ne way

What did RC say that needed doing?

If you do rip the 6x9s out to have a look, the wire gauge should be printed on the insulation (y)

i only bought the 6x9s last month!! thers not way they should be blown up this quick! i go through about 2 sets ever 3 months theres def a problem sumwhere

he just sed need to get them all tidyed up( u cant see them coz they in the sub boxy thing) but i pulled the front off the install to take a look n its like a maze in there! xxx

Remember you should try and wear in your speakers.

Don't play them at mad levels brand new.

Play em about half way or loud but not to loud (which ever is quieter)

then if you drive everyday for a week, play it a bit louder. end of the second week tump em and they should be ok.

i do, it still happens, i turn the bass off to the 6x9s so they only carryin sound , but they still go. the full amp is turning off when i press play. but is ok when just hu on. xxxx

What gauge power cable do you have on the amp? Something is definately amiss..........................:chin:

If the amp has been clipping (or distorting) then that'll fry the speakers quicker than Lees Garden can knock up a chicken chow mein.

If it was the main power feed, then the main fuse should have blown.

My money is on a voice coil.
of my 6x9'S? would that make the amp switch off? the big fuse on my battery stiil in tact. xxx
