Has anyone tried any of the above super fuels in their cars and have you noticed an improvement in your MPG??

Just filled up with BT ULTIMATE hoping to see that 'improved economy' they talk about!

Paul, have a search on 'Optimax Stilo' - quite a few threads about it!? Ultimate is obviously newer.

I used to always use optimax in my 2litre Mondeo - however, now use 95RON in my 2.4, however, I still avoid supermarket fuels :)

I found I got a lower mpg from Tesco fuel which was about 3p cheaper than the quality brands. I mainly use either Shell or Texaco which I'm lead to believe are high quality fuels, as for the premium fuels I couldn't really say.

Based on my lower mpg from Tesco fuel I'll be sticking to the standard Shell/Texaco stuff.

When I had the Rover 214, whenever I filled up at a jet station, the economy just went down badly.must of dropped to about 36mpg when the car usualy done 39.
Changed to using Shell from then on really.

I run my Abarth on 95ron fuel, occasionally (when feeling flush) I stick a tank full of the 97ron optimax or ultimate fuel in, don't notice any improvement in mpg, but that might be due to driving it a bit harder as the engine is 'slightly' more responsive with the higher octane 97ron stuff

my car hates any BP fuel for some reason. Real lack of performance with both variants. Runs like a grandma on Sainsburys petrol too. My car likes Shell at Tesco. It likes Optimax.

Bp ultimate or any super is 97 ron, optimax is 98.5 ron. That means that is should be as differant from super as super is from regular.

Not all cars can take advantage of the extra octane as timing needs to be altered, if the stilo is equiped with active knock then it will defo be better on optimax.

ron is only part of the equation, mon is also significant I have no figures to hand for this.

All cars should get benefit (over time) from the detergents added to the likes of ultimate and optimax.

What we really need is shell V-Power as sold on the contenant at 100ron.

No point paying for the extra octane unless you use it quickly over 2 weeks optimax/ultimate will have dropped to 95 ron. For that reason it is better to buy it from a busy station.

I buy optimax for racing, whats letf at the end of the weekend gets tipped into the stilo.

In short I remomend optimax if you can afford it and use it within a week.

I've used optimax in my 1.6 Dynamic, and i can say i definitly noticed increased performance and better fuel economy, probably because i didn't have to prod the loud pedal so hard (y)

Chris

yellow 1.6 dynamic - fully kitted - 17" five spokes.

i've always used optimax, can't say i notice an improvement over the normal unleaded - apart from performance.

they are both 98RON - exactly the same (Just different brandings)

try puting in x5 bottles of Redex in your car and Optimax - BANG!!! :D

I have to say, I can be a bit keen with the "Shedex" too sometimes. One bottle can last me about 6 fills. lol.
My mate put a whole bottle of it in his 1l Uno last year. It billowed smoke for about 2 days. lol

My Stilo is an.....................................

03 model, and I've always used Optimax, it has 15,000 miles on the clock and the engine is just starting to loosen up, I've noticed improved performance of late, it definitely feels faster, but , and this is an ongoing but, it doesn't return more than 25mpg!

25mpg from a 1.2 you really have a problem, you should be getting nearer 40mpg.

Not wanting to sound off but why are you putting optimax in your car? is it really worth the extra 5p litre in a 1.2 litre engine.

have you tried esso supreme.Found it more responsive, and makes engine feel
alot smoother than shell optimax.am on 3rd tank now and car has greatly improved
