Technical Broken Radiator

APARENTLY if you rack an egg into the header tank, it will flow round the sytem, and when it finds a hole try to escape, it then boils and plugs the hole.

I will not b held responsible if any of you muppets attempt this:p

It does work. My uncle bemused a stranger after breaking down when he knocked on their door to ask for a couple of eggs which he promptly cracked in to his rad' to cure a leak!

It basicaly does the same thing as that the Radweld stuff you buy in halfords. And just like that you should only use it in an absolute emergency as it clogs your whole cooling system. You're better to keep topping it up with water to get you home and then sort the problem.

Also if you do use an egg, split the yolk and the white and only put the white in, that's the bit that seals the gap.

As you've already put Radweld in flush the system thoroughly to get it out.

Andrew the only Panda's that had different rads were the 750's which had slightly smaller ones. You will notice two mount holes on the cross member on the left hand (off side). Outer one is used to mount 999 and 1108cc rads and inner for the 769cc rads.
and 4x4s have a seperate header don't they? Never had any dealings with an injection model so didn't want to make any assumptions. Just an oddity on that website I guess as they do list the same part no. but only for an 1108 selecta after '92:confused:

Why that odd?

And yes, I forgot to mention that the rad and cooling system in the 4x4s are compleatly different again like you say.

Luckily I'm a lazy sod and haven't yet put the radweld in nor and egg but thanks for the info Nitro. I have just been topping it up as it is just a very small leak and I've been keeping an eye on the temp guage and the heater temp as it normally goes freezing cold when the rad's not working.

Firstcar - I take it the 'Automatic' rad advertised on the website under year 1994 (Part number FT399) is the same for my 1994 Fire? Did a few searches for different years and the FT399 came up for a 999cc also. I will measure the radiator on my car tomorrow.
Cheers Guys

got the part in the post yesterday, cheers Jon. Had a quick attempt at fitting but it's an absolute b!tch to say the least.

Anyone know? the only we i could think is to lift the rad up, fit the piece then drop the rad back down.

Craig, remove (unbolt) the top rad supports, lean rad towards engine slightly and lift it upwards. The rad will then be in 'limbo'.

Then add the new bottom support (and check the origional is still in place). Sit rad on the two bottom supports, then insert two top mounts into rad before re-attaching them to the cross member.

Oh, Lucy, the 1108cc Selecta's rads are the same as the 999cc manual Panda's.

Jon.

Cheers Jon, will order that one I think as postage is included. Just been reading your thread about your dad and sisters accident, not sure how i missed that one but i'm glad they are both ok and I agree Insurance companies are complete b*****ds. I hope you get it all sorted :)

assume so, fitted mine fine (1990 fire) and I don't think theres any changes to the plumbing. They just list the same part for everything but only list a selecta for that age:confused:
