General broken computer/ dashboard dials

Hi. I am wondering if anybody can help. I went to start my stilo (02 plate and 1.6 petrol) and first it came with an ABS and ASR fault. So i turned it off and restarted it then all my screen and dial went off, so no speed or petrol gauge. they computer has frozen on checking. I tried taking the black cable of the battery, hoping that the computer would restart itself but this failed to work.
I have managed to drive the car today but all the dials are of and its still on checking. But the steering wheel is locked as well got to restart it till the power steering kicks in. Im guessing its a fault with the computer but dont know. Many thanks for ur help.

Did you check your battery voltage?
Might just be a weak battery....

Reading the fault codes will give you a much better idea of what the problem is. Are you able to do so?

I havent been able to check the voltage. but iv still got a green window in the battery.

I havent got a computer attachments to read them. Im quite basic so havent got many tools.

Unfortunately that's not a reliable indicator - it's important to read the voltage under load with engine off and running....
Find someone with a multimeter, that shouldn't be very hard?
