Re: Re: Bravo faults - the BIG list

97/P 1.6SX Bravo - 3rd owner, from Nov 99 - 33K (now 71K)

1 injector at 35K

Nothing except ususal, (shocks,tyres,exhaust)since.

1.4 sx 60'000 r reg

clutch slave cylinder bust
slow electric windows
rear wiper motor

1.8 hlx 1998 S reg
I bought it in November 2003.

Before I drove it off the forecourt, I got the:

Back Cluster resealed, (condensation in it)
New front Fog (bulb and cover smashed)
Passenger door fixed (wouldn't close, lock sticking, window sluggish, rubber trim on outside falling off)

Two weeks ago the battery went and I also think the drainage holes are blocked on my sunroof, causing leaks.

Thats about it I think, nothing major unless my sunroof gets worse.

Nicola

Tom i know you said no discussion in this thread, but i just curious why you want the info ? is it just so you have an idea of all the common faults ?

Re: Re: Re: marea-faults list

1998 'R Plate' 2.0 147bhp HGT
Owned from new
Current mileage 96,000
Serviced by Fiats till 3 years old at recommended service intervals.
Cambelt changed @ 70,000 (eek)

Faults:

Ultrasonic roof unit (incorporating courtesy lamps and sunroof switch) changed @ 18 months old due to remote opening / locking failing to work.

Rear wiper started ticking and failed at 4 1/2 years old.

I have had the front bumper changed twice due to paint flaking off.
The second time it was changed it was done at a non-Fiat paintshop, the paint still flaked off. The paintshop checked it out and it turned out that the bumpers being sent out from Fiat had been badly primed and it was the primer that was coming off and not the paint. So, the paintshop stripped the bumper back to the bare plastic, primed it properly and painted it, 18 months later and the paint on it is fine. :)

Paint finish is good but paint wear is aweful, I had the bonnet resprayed after 2 years due to excessive stone chips. I went to Fiat and they said nothing wrong with the paint finish, I had an AA inspection and they said the same, the paint was thick enough and sorry but Fiat have no case to answer for.
The AA guy said that the best modern paints to go for are the metallic as they have a clear lacquer coat and it protects the coloured finish. So next car for me will have a met colour.

Not faults but things that have been changed:

(Well I don't think these are faults as such, fair wear and tear if you ask me.)

Exhaust back box fell off at just over 3 years old

Battery failed at just over 3 years old.

Exhaust manifold cracked at 5 years old (again fairish wear and tear). This is a b'stard, cos it needs so much taking off to get at it's a £500 job at a garage including the manifold :(

Re: Re: Bravo faults - the BIG list

Car: Aug 98 147 HGT
Mileage: 51k

paint flaking off front spoiler (left it - not too bad)
bearing on aux belt went (awful noise - replaced)
dodgy boot shut (left it, slightly misaligned)
slow passenger side window (replaced motor)
tiny rust spots on rear window sill (left it)
possible sensor / thermostat problem now (not sure which one it is)

thats all off the top off my head

Re: Re: Bravo faults - the BIG list

98R Marea TD125 HLX saloon

Bought June 2003 with 37k, now showing 48k
3rd owner from new (company owner to 11k, private owner to 37k - swapped it for a 307 XSi and regrets it!)
So far serviced by either main dealer or independent Fiat specialist

Problems :-

Previous owner had ECU replaced (under dealer warranty) - didn't solve problem, eventually traced to EGR valve, also replaced under warranty.

Reversing lights not working when I bought it - traced to dead gearbox switch and fixed.
Headlamp washers not working when I bought it - traced to dead pump and fixed.

Clutch started slipping a few weeks ago at around 47k. Gradually got worse so took the plunge and sunk £380 into a new one last week. Friction material on old clutch seemed OK, but bearing housing knackered and spring petals badly chewed where the bearing fits.

Smoke and lumpy idle for first couple of seconds when starting from cold - suspect dripping injector. Planning to get injectors serviced soon……

Other minor niggles with trim etc - flickering seat-belt light on dash, sticking outside door handles, seat height adjuster comes off in my hand(!), but less than girlfriend's S-reg Polo (heap of junk!)

Re: Re: Re: Re: Bravo faults - the BIG list

1999 HGT 155 T plate, bought 2000 with 12k on it sold end of last year with 75k on it!

Problems:

Big end failure at 55k, cost £2800 to repair!
Airbag light kept coming up, gave up resetting it.
Faulty Fiat alarm, in the end they couldnt fix it and fitted an after market one at their cost.
Thermostat went at 60k
New exhaust - tried about 3 of them but none ever fitted the same as original, sat too low.
New passenger window motor.
New driver heat mat.
New brakes at 50k

The new owner is happy with it, hasnt had any problems except the airbag light!

Re: Re: Bravo faults - the BIG list

i forgot that my rear wiper started to click and the water pipe came off. The garage fixed this for me under warranty though.
Also back boot lock always sticks.

thanks

the big fault

TD 100

50k new radiator.

100k none

150k still none

163261 nothing

105 JTD SX Weekend

Marea Weekend 105 JTD SX
3rd owner
Bought 41K Dec 02
Current 66K (Cambelt done 2 weeks ago!)

Servicing - Myself for most except oil changes (costs about the same and is so much less messy) and the cambelt change

Faults -

50K Rear Wash Wipe

Shaft rusted, motor etc fine. Fixed with a big hammer and some more grease - so for so good.

57K - Remote central locking failed

One key never worked but the one that did stopped working over night. Tried new batteries - no change. Took the sensor/interior light apart but to no avail. Do not have the key code card (Oops, and Fiat don't have them for the Marea aparently) so that still doesn't work.

59K - Boot release handle siezed.

Dismantled, cleaned and rebuilt and no recurrence.

Plus one set of tyres, still waiting for the brake pads to wear down. (Mostly driven on the motorway)

Other -

wing mirror surrounds flaking.

Stereo replaced (but not with a Fiat one!!), tape player didn't work properly, well that was one reason.

Previous car

Tipo 1.9 TDSX 50K to 152K in 4.5 years
63000 Front Section Exhaust
70100 Glow Plugs
70100 Rear Section Exhaust
70600 Fuel Return line - (replaced several times)
126000 Altenator
130000 Clutch
131017 Battery
152000 Clutch Slave Cylinder

Plus bulbs, pads and disks. No suspension component failures. No electical faults.

Still going dispite the next owner filling it with unleaded.

the Marea is a T reg 1999

Sorry forgot one of the important bits of info.
