Hello (again!)
My Fiat Punto 1996 55s has started to make squealing noises when I press the brakes. It has made a 'sssh' noise when I press the brakes for some time, noticeable when starting off but not afterwards - whether due to more noise at higher speed drowning it out or just the noise going away I'm not sure. The squealing only started yesterday, it occurred after around 50mins of driving. Since then it only occurs when I've been driving for over around 45 mins.
My dad thought it could be brake dust rather than the brake pads being worn down, as he had checked the front brake pads a couple of months ago and says he measured them at 7mm. Do you know whether this is likely to be something of concern or not? I'm pretty skint so don't want to get them checked unless necessary - I can live with the noise but don't want it to be a safety concern, or to cause more (and more expensive) damage by not getting any repair work done now if it is needed.
Anyone experienced this before? It's strange how it happens after a fair amount of time driving - everything I've come across on the net has been that it happens straight away if anything.
