I was driving yesterday and the brake became stiff and more resistant all of a sudden. It still works but it's resisting when near the top. Has anyone experienced this and what should I expect when I go to the shop? Hopefully it's nothing serious.

Model
Punto mk1 Cult 1999 1.2 petrol
I usually try to fix things myself, but when it comes to things like brakes, I call professional and take it to the shop asap.

You'd check if you see any issues/leakage around brake fluid reservoir and around wheels, but chances are the brake booster/calipers need attention. They'd do a brake fluid change at the same time, at least that's done too.

I actually have no idea where the brake fluid reservoir is on the mk1. How long would these things you listed take to fix and are they expensive? I need my car soon...

Try this test,

Engine off..
Pump the Brake pedal until it is Firm(hard)

Keep your foot on the pedal, Start the motor, Did the pedal drop/fall a little? 🤔

The pedal dropping is the vaccum of the motor working the Servo brake booster😉

Money-wise I'd say, probably cost more than changing oil, but should be less expensive than changing the timing belts.
You gotta ask a garage first to identify the issue, that'd determine the actual cost.

IMO There's a few issues that could wait a bit, but when it comes to things like brakes, you'd get it fixed asap. A possible accident could cause much more than fixing the brake issue.

Thanks, I already pumped the brakes but I didn't try turning the engine on just yet, I had to go as I was late!

Absolutely, I'll get it checked out ASAP. Thank you!
