General boot wont open

just a quick one after searching i cant figure it out.

i have a 02 1.8 dynamic 3dr

the boot works fine with the central locking button, ie hold for a few secs and it pops open.

the key is not working as the lock looks as though its never been used

the thing is the boot has always worked when the car is unlocked by the pressure pad. but now it has stopped working. ind boot is set too off aswell. ive tried both options and it doesn't work.

is it a dead switch or am i missing something?

Sounds like a dead switch. Try opening with the remote and closing it, but not fully, just rest it on the catch, so it doesn't catch but looks closed, then try the boot handle, you should hear the actuator fire if the switch is working

Hi @ FF, Merry Christmas to all.
I'm having a similar problem - When I open the rear tailgate with my key the catch does not release fully ? It only appears to half open and then the handle does not release the catch ? I have to open it by means of the central locking with the key in the drivers door ( I dont have a functioning remote fob) which opens it no problem ? its just that I can't open the tailgate independantly (I've tried both settings on the menu button) Any ideas - perhaps the actuator not functioning correctly ? Thank you.

Strange enough, I am sometimes getting the same problem after I was trying to understand how the deadlock device functioned.
The doors are open but the boot not, so I have to push the remote to unlock again. I do not use my boot often though so I cant figure out the pattern.
Check pages 14 and 15 of the manual, for activation and deactivation.
Let me also say that after I played around with it, the door lock switch on the driver's door panel does not work now.
I just have to reverse the process on what I did to get back to what I was used to.
I still do not fully understand the system so I never leave my keys in the kar and the doors closed.

It's handy if you can open the tailgate independantly - It gives you another option to get in the car when the door locks are frozen solid at half five in a morning !!!

If this is NL52 EHC that I used to own it did that with me before when the battery went flat after it was left standing for months awaiting another gearbox.

I think in the end It was something i ended up re-setting somehow?

BTW I'm not sure the bootlock key ever worked with me for some reason.

aye jordan its your old car still in pretty tidy condition lol, picked it up for a bargain .

it all worked fine when i bought it, (lock didnt ) but now the switch doesnt fire, ive got another today so ill give that ago. ive checked and IND boot is off so its not the comp turning it off

Ah well, strange! Doesn't work if you unlock the car on the button twice first? As in, press unlock twice quickly, then try the boot button on either the fob or the switch above the numberplate?

Miss that car tbh, The amount of people who have told me over the last couple of years that it was the best handling car they've ever been in is unreal.

with regards to using the key to open the boot, mine was jammed solid, so i popped it open and held it so lock was flat, then kept spraying WD40 into the lock (using the straw thats included) then trying my key, after about 15 mins i managed to get the key to open the boot without any electronics, quite handy since i've got the battery in the boot and no electrics powered up

May take you up on that jordan in the future. atm im still loving it, coilies are holding up well. going to refurb them soon though i think.

the boot works with fob for now, i have a new switch just getting around to fitting it .
